I want to be a good teacher of physics





Choosing a profession is not an easy matter. It's very important for thousands of young people to make the right choice. What and who do you think can help you to choose your future profession? There are many sources of information: your parents and friends, reference books and mass media.

As for me I've chosen the profession of a teacher of physics and computer science and I'd like to dedicate my life to the upbringing of young generation. My mother influenced my choice of career, because she is already an experienced teacher. I'm going to follow my mother's steps and continue the family tradition. And if I choose this profession I have to be a good teacher. To be a good teacher means to be a highly educated person, to know a lot and to work creatively. I know teaching to be a very difficult job of great importance and responsibility. Working with children I have to discover their interests and abilities. But first of all I must be able to be a model of competence in my subject. Physics is a broad exact science about nature. I'll have to explain and convince my pupils that the development of other sciences depends in many respects on the knowledge of physical phenomena. I would like to teach them to make experiments to know different phenomena and to get keen interest in their origin applying new methods of teaching.

But we know the duties of a teacher do not end when classes are over that is why I'll take an active part in out-of-class activity organizing different competitions and excursions to observatory, running clubs and societies. I'd like to see my pupils to be real participants of this process.

Teaching is a creative job demanding great knowledge of psychology, pedagogy and practice of teaching. I'll try to keep in step with life and to improve my professional skills by attending different kinds of refresher courses and reading different publications. I'll use all my best qualities and professionalism to prepare pupils for real life situations, to make them believe in their future.

Exercise 9. Read the text and make written notes for retelling it.

The teacher of physics Juri Dmitriyevich Zarubin from school № 130 uses design method at his lessons. Before working at any topic the teacher puts a practical task. For example, when 8-formers study the theme "Cinematic", they get the task to construct a model of machine which can plant seedlings. And the 10th-formers while studying the theme "Photo effect" are given the task to make up a diagram of an instrument which can sort tomatoes. To make this task the pupils must learn this theme very well. The teacher asks his pupils different questions and conducts creative lessons. While preparing for this lesson the pupils are divided into some groups, each group (team) makes its own design. During the lesson each group (team) has the opportunity "to defend" its design. The pupils-experts from senior-forms choose (determine) the winners.
