ПРЕДИСЛОВИЕ
Основной целью обучения английскому языку студентов заочного отделения в техническом вузе является овладение ими базовыми умениями и навыками для самостоятельной работы с иноязычными источниками по извлечению полезной информации по специальности вуза. Перевод (устный, письменный) используются: а) как средство обучения; б) для контроля понимания прочитанного; в) в качестве возможного способа передачи полученной при чтении информации. В процессе достижения цели обучения решаются воспитательные и общеобразовательные задачи, способствующие повышению общеобразовательного и культурного уровня студентов. Студенты заочного отделения, в рамках программы по иностранному языку, при меньшем количестве аудиторных занятий, обязаны освоить тот же объем знаний по предмету, что и студенты очного отделения. Чтобы компенсировать ограниченное количество аудиторных занятий и учесть разный уровень базовой подготовки студентов, программа подразумевает пошаговое (от простого к сложному) овладение грамматическим и лексическим материалом, необходимым для чтения иноязычной литературы по профилю вуза. Таким образом, студенты, не обладающие достаточными навыками по английскому языку, имеют возможность постепенно освоить все разделы программы. Студенты, имеющие определенный уровень подготовки по иностранному языку, совершенствуют его. Предоставленное методическое пособие может быть использовано, как преподавателями, так и студентами, при проведении контрольных занятий по проверке уровня знаний по английскому языку.

Для правильного выполнения данного контрольного задания необходимо повторить следующие разделы курса английского языка: 1. Времена группы Indefinite действительного залога. Спряжение глаголов to be и to have. 2. Простое распространенное предложение: прямой порядок слов, обратный порядок слов вопросительного предложения. 3. Времена группы Continuous. 4. The Passive Voice. 5. Времена группы Perfect. Вариант 1
I. Перепишите данные ниже предложения, вставляя глагол в скобках в нужную временную форму группы Indefinite. Переведите письменно предложения на русский язык. e.g. I (plant) some roses two days ago.- I planted some roses two days ago. Два дня назад я посадил несколько роз. (Past Indefinite) 1. Yesterday he (speak) on the latest developments in Asia. 2. When he (come) to work he (study) documents (speak) with the people who (ask) for help and (discuss) the order of the day with his manager. 3. The new prices (take) effect from the next September. 4. If the producers (ask) the government for help, most probably they (get) it. 5. The way in which the market economy (allocate) products and resources can be shown in a certain figure.
II. Перепишите следующие предложения, вставляя глагол в скобках в одном из времен группы Indefinite Active или Passive. Переведите письменно предложения на русский язык. e.g. A light passenger plane (crash) in Surrey.–A light passenger plane crashed in Surrey(Past Indefinite Active) - Легкий пассажирский самолет разбился в Сарри. e.g. Now the book (can publish).- Now the book can be published.(Present Indefinite Passive) – Теперь книга может быть опубликована. 1. IV.Перепишите предложения, преобразуя глагол в скобках в Present Perfect, Past Indefinite или Past Continuous. Economics is often said to deal with the earning, distribution, and use of all kinds of wealth. Wealth is made up of goods and services. Goods are actual things people use. Goods can be seen and felt by those who use them. The two kinds of goods are economic goods and free goods. Economic goods are those things people will pay to receive. Bicycles, bread, radios, and jeans are examples of economic goods. Can you name other economic goods? Free goods are things that can usually be had without cast. Air, sunshine, and in some cases water are examples of free goods. An item can be both a free good and an economic good. The water people drink from a clean stream or brook is a free good. The water that many people drink from the tap in their homes has to be paid for and is an economic good. Air might be thought of free. Yet in some areas it costs millions of dollars to keep the air clean. Вариант 2

Putting Your Money to Work.
A better way to keep your money secure and productive is to invest it. An investment is anything you spend money on with the intention of making more money. Investments take many forms, from real estate and rare book collections to buying stocks and bonds. In order to choose the best investment for you have to evaluate your personal investment goals. Some investors, armed with loads of cash and confidence, are eager to take risks in hopes of realizing big gains. Some seek a way to shelter their savings from being eroded by inflation. And others want their money to earn a steady income. But all investors seek ways to make their capital as profitable as possible. It is important to note that the many rules and regulations governing market activity do not mean that any investment is risk-free. But with accurate information and the help of a securities industry professional, your chances of making your money grow are as good as anything.

Guidelines for Investors Most people consider investing a smart thing to do, but people invest for many different reasons. Some want to put something aside for their retirement. Others may want to save for a specific reason, such as to fund a college education for their children or to purchase a home. Some people use investing as a means to generate income. Also, investments vary greatly in risk. High-risk investments – such as buying the stock of small, lesser – known companies or low – rated bonds – usually pay a more attractive return or yield safer investments, such as blue-chip stocks and high-grade bonds. However, here’s one thing to keep in mind: high-risk ventures mean a greater likelihood you may lose your entire amount invested. Banks If you have extra cash and your only concern is “safety of principle”- that is the safest way to ensure that the money you invest will be there when you want it – then you can simply deposit the money into a saving account with a local bank. However, the rate of return on such accounts is relatively low, so your money will not be working very hard. And when you consider factors such as inflation, your money probably will be worth less over time. Other than safety, the other advantage of a savings account is liquidity – you can withdraw your money from the bank at any time. Two other safe investment alternatives available through banks are Money Market accounts and Certificates of Deposits. When you put your cash in a money market account, the bank reinvests it in short-term securities other than stocks and bonds (Treasuries, for example) and makes money off your money. In return, the bank pays you a fluctuating rate of interest that is usually higher that the rate paid by savings account. Вариант 2

Bonds All bonds are loans. The investor loans money to a corporation or government entity for a certain period of time. In return, the investor receives a fixed rate of interest on the loan. The interest is usually paid at specified intervals, such as semi-annually or quarterly. When the bond matures, the investor receives the entire amount invested, or the principal. If the bound is cashed in before it matures, a penalty may be assessed. Once issued, bonds can be traded like any other security. Treasury Bonds are considered the safest bond investment. They are not insured, but are backed by the full faith and credit of government. In other words, the government guarantees that the investor will receive full principal upon maturity. In addition, the interest earned is not subject to state and local taxes. Government bonds come in several forms and can be purchased from banks, some brokerage houses, or directly through the government. Вариант 2 I. Перепишите и письменно переведите следующие предложения, принимая во внимание, что инфинитив в функции определения и особенно объектный и субъектный инфинитивные обороты большей частью соответствуют придаточным предложениям). 1. He is said to be proposing another agreement with this company. 2. The plan to be discussed will greatly affect our methods of producing these products. 3. When are they expected to arrive? 4. The city was considered to win the competition to host EXPO-2012. 5. The construction proved to have taken much more time than planned.
II. Перепишите и письменно переведите следующие предложения, учитывая различия в переводе зависимого и независимого причастногооборота. 1. The Chamber of Commerce giving the information, the English company sent an offer to the German company. 2. Having been written the translation was given to the teacher. 3. With the prices being very high, the company managed to sell the goods at a very good profit. 4. They discussed the terms of delivery, with the company having agreed to reconsider the price. 5. The company accepted the offer, with the prices for similar wares having increased significantly on their market.
