Lesson 7.1.3. Home Appliances

Ex 1. What home appliances do you see in the pictures? Which of them do you use in your everyday life?

Ex 2. Discuss in pairs, the advantages and disadvantages of modern home appliances.

Ex 3. Read the washing machine instruction. Look at the picture of the washing machine and discuss what buttons and indicators are used to start a machine, to select a required program, to activate a new wash cycle, to delay the start, etc.

WAHING MACHINE INSTRUCTION

Safety notes

Before switching on the appliance make sure it is correctly installed and that the transit braces are removed.

Check that no danger has occurred during transit.

For cleaning or maintenance of the washing machine

1) Pull out the plug

2) Turn off the tap

3) Do not touch the appliance when hands or feet are wet or damp

4) The use of adaptors, multiple connectors are not recommended

5) Check there is no water left in the drum before opening the door

6) Do not allow children to use the appliance without supervision

7) The appliance must not be exposed to weather conditions

Washing

- Open the door

- Select laundry and put it into the machine

- Close the door

- Select program

- Wait for the STOP indicator light to flash.

- Press the START/PAUSE button.

- After few seconds the appliance start working.

After washing

- The indicator light STOP will go on

- Wait for the door lock to be released

- The DOOR SECURITY indicator light will go out (about 2 minutes after the program has finished)

- Switch off the washing machine by turning the selector to OFF position

- Open the door and remove the laundry

To cancel the program selector should be rotated to the OFF position.

FAST WASH button

Press the button to select or deselect this function.

Pressing this button reduces the time of the wash program by a maximum 50 minutes depending on the program and the temperature selected. The SUPER RAPID button can be used for washing loads of 1 to 8 kg. This option may only be utilized on COTTONS and SYNTHETICS programs.

ALLERGY CARE button

By pressing the button you can activate a special new wash cycle in the Cotton and Mixed Fabrics programs, thanks to the new Sensor Activia System. This option treats with care the fibres of garments and the the delicate skin of those who wear them.

Ex 4. Decide whether these statements are true or false. Give your reasons.

1. Before switching on the appliance make sure it is correctly installed.

Ex 6. Write an instruction to any home appliance by your own (a DVD player, a TV set, a coffee maker, etc).

Ex 7. Fill in a modal verb (can, should, may, must)

1. If the appliance’s cable should ever need replacing, consult the technical Support Service.

2. The appliance must not be exposed to weather conditions.

3. The program may be paused at any time during the wash cycle.

4. To cancel the program the program selector should be rotated to the “OFF” position.

5. Appliance start time can be set with DELAY START button.

6. The program can be started manually using the “Start/Pause” button.

Занятие 7.2.1. Типы компьютеров. Computer types

Цели занятия:

Образовательная: сформировать умения поведения в ситуации иноязычного общения по теме «Типы компьютеров».

развивающая: развивать культуру мышления студентов на иностранном языке; развивать способность анализа, обобщения и восприятия на иностранном языке;

воспитательная: воспитывать понимание важности использования компьютера в нашей жизни. Воспитывать умение использовать информацию о разных типах компьютеров.

практическая: сформировать умения применять лексику и грамматику по теме «Типы компьютеров» в подготовленной речи.

Задания:

1.Выучить лексику: ability, equipment, statement, cursor, browser, server, modem, gigabyte, concern, score, overload, vintage cur, catch phrase, to be suspicious, to leave behind, to get frustrated.

2. Прослушать текст о том, как говорящие используют компьютер в повседневной жизни и выполнить задания после прослушивания текста.

3. Прочитать текст о различных типах компьютеров и выполнить задания после текста.

4. Сравнить различные типы компьютеров, подготовить диалог о преимуществах того или иного компьютера для разных людей.

5. Перевести на родной язык текст об истории развития компьютера.

Самостоятельная работа.

Изучить информацию на интернет-сайтах о различных компьютерах и выбрать наиболее подходящий для себя. Обосновать свой выбор.

Занятие 7.2.2. Программное обеспечение. Software

Цели занятия: сформировать представление о программном обеспечении.

развивающая: развивать логическое мышление студентов на иностранном языке; развивать навыки говорения на иностранном языке; формировать навыки самостоятельной работы.

воспитательная: воспитывать умение воспринимать, обобщать и анализировать информацию по теме «Компьютерное обеспечение».

практическая: развитие умений монологической речи

Задания:

1.Выучить лексику: affair, answering machine, automatically, defense, estimate, face recognition, hacker, mailbox, mouse, network, plug in, privacy, request, security guard, technophile, website.

2. Прослушать текст и понять информацию о различных видах программного обеспечения и возможности их применения

3. Сформулировать собственное мнение о различных видах программного обеспечения и приготовит высказывание по данной теме.

4. Составить описание программного обеспечения своего компьютера

5. Перести на родной язык тексты, содержащие описание программного обеспечения.

Самостоятельная работа.

Изучить информацию на интернет сайтах и подобрать компьютерное обеспечение для рабочего компьютера.

Занятие 7.2.3. Электронный этикет. E-mail etiquette

Цели занятия:

Образовательная: сформировать представление об электронном этикете;

Развивающая: развитие речевых способностей в процессе овладения языком

Воспитательная: поддержание интереса к учению и формированию познавательной активности;

Практическая: развитие навыка употребления лексики в письменной речи.

Задания:

1.Выучить лексику: rewrite, length, including, cooperation, discuss, presentation, attachment, provide, inconvenience, previous contact, giving information, request, giving clarification, summarizing key point.

2. Прослушать текст и понять информацию о правилах поведения в глобальных сетях.

3. Прочитать текст и понять информацию из текстов об электронном этикете.

4. Подготовить монологическое высказывание о необходимости электронного этикета.

5. Составить список основных правил электронного этикета. Написать пример электронного письма.

Самостоятельная работа.

Найти в интернете примеры несоблюдения электронного этикета.
