1. Translate the sentences and comment on the use of the Past Continuous Tense:

1. It was raining cats and dogs when I left the house. 2. I was driving along a country road when I saw a telephone box. 3. When we were leaving the café we saw you and Harry. You were laughing together and walking arm in arm. 4. Becky was always putting off some difficult work to the very last moment. 5. While Jane and Lewis were whispering in class the monitor was looking at them with indignation. 6. Ann was very fond of cooking. She was always doing something in the kitchen all the time. 7. She looked across the street to see if they were waiting. 8. I saw Carol at the party. She was wearing a really beautiful dress. 9. Beatrice was having her music lesson from 6 to 8 p.m. 10. Sally burnt her wrist when she was cooking dinner.

2. Answer the questions using when and the verb of the subordinate clause in the Past Continuous Tense:

Example: When did she meet Helen? (walk along the street)

She met Helen when she was walking along the street.
