THE UN GLOBAL AGENDA 2030 AND 17 SDGS

  • Introduction of students and their expectations from the course
  • Students’ presentations of thecreative digital team charters
  • Guided discussion based on the assigned readings and video-materials for the class
  • Sharing students’ stories on developing professional competencies

HOMEWORK (to be completed before the seminar1 starts):

1. Manage your team and assess your environmental impact:

  • Check which team you are assigned to on Google-Drive in a designated Google-Table file “TEAMS-Sign-up”, develop your creative team charter (see instructions in Appendix 1) & submit it to the designated folder on Google-Drive.

· Measure your personal ecological footprint & submit it to the designated folder on Google-Drive.

2. Do the assigned reading available from the Google-Drive:

  • IPCC, 2014: Climate Change 2014: Synthesis Report. Contribution of Working Groups I, II and III to the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [Core Writing Team, R.K. Pachauri and L.A. Meyer (eds.)]. IPCC, Geneva, Switzerland. (English version – 151 pages, Russian version – 182 pages).

 

3. Watch& reflect:

  • DocumentaryHome ”(2009) by Yann Arthus Bertrand available on YouTube (1 hour 33 minutes) and write a one page reflection summarizing the key take-away messages, your thoughts and feelings triggered by the material. Please, upload your reflections before the session starts as a.pdf file with your name to the designated folder on Google-Drive.

 

4. Develop your professional competencies:

· Think of one small thing you could stop or start doing being part of the problem and start being part of the solution to one of the planetary mega-issues.

CASES ON THE BEST PRACTICES OF SUSTAINABILITY

  • Presenting the cases on the best practices of sustainability
  • Discussing the cases: critical discussion based on perspectives from two teams
  • Guided discussion based on the assigned video-materials for the class
  • Sharingstudents’ stories ondeveloping professional competencies

HOMEWORK (to be completed before the seminar2 starts):

1. Do the assigned reading available from the Google-Drive:

· Read a case assigned to your group in Google-Table and answer questions following instructions for the cases (see Appendix 2) and upload your presentations to Google-Drive!

 

2. Watch:

  • Documentary Wasteland (2010) by Lucy Walker and Karen Harleyavailable on YouTube (1 hour 39 minutes) and write a one page reflection summarizing the key take-away messages, your thoughts and feelings triggered by the material. Please, upload your reflections before the session starts as a.pdf file with your name to the designated folder on Google-Drive.

 

 

3. Develop your professional competencies:

· Convince one person to change a concrete practice (e.g. printing, use of packaging, energy use) to more sustainable ways.
