Занятие 1.1.1 Ситуации приветствия. Greeting situations

Цели занятия:

образовательная: расширение лингвистического кругозора через страноведческую информацию.

развивающая: развитие речевых способностей вступать в иноязычное общение.

воспитательная: воспитание культуры общения.

практическая: развитие умений диалогической речи.

Задания:

1.Освоить лексику по теме «Приветствие»:

Hello, my name is…, I've been looking forward to meeting you. I am Jane Morrison/ I've always wanted to meet you. Let me introduce myself (to you). Allow me to introduce myself. Good morning! Good afternoon! Good evening! Hello/Hallo/Hullo! Hi! Morning! Afternoon! Evening! Hello everybody! Welcome! Allow you to welcome you. Allow me to welcome you/greet you on behalf of... Goodbye. Fine, thanks. (I'm) very well, thank you. Not too bad. Fine, thanks. Splendid! Can' t complain. Things look pretty good. Things don't look too bad. More or less. So, so. How's life? How are things?

2.Научиться употреблять личные местоимения с глаголом to be.

3.Прочитать текст «Eye Contact» и ответить на вопросы по тексту.

4.Выполнить упражнения №6-10.

5.Прослушать текст и выполнить задания (упр. №11).

6.Научиться: приветствовать друга, коллегу, которого не видели долгое время; прощаться с друзьями, коллегами; представляться самому и представлять своих друзей, коллег; благодарить за оказанную услугу.

7.Научиться переводить на родной язык письменные и устные неофициальные и официальные приветствия друзей, коллег, работающих в различных учреждениях за рубежом.

Самостоятельная работа: выбрать одну из ситуаций приветствия и составить краткий диалог по теме.

Занятие 1.1.2 Внешность Appearance

Цели занятия:

образовательная: расширение лингвистического кругозора через страноведческую информацию.

развивающая: развитие речевых способностей в процессе овладения языком.

воспитательная: воспитание культуры общения.

практическая: развитие умений монологической речи.

Задания:

1.Освоить лексику по теме «Внешность»:

General appearance: handsome, good-looking, pretty, attractive, beautiful, plain, ugly;

Age: young, middle-aged, old, in his early/mid / late twenties;

Height: tall, short, of medium height;

Build: fat, plump, well-built, slim, thin, of medium build;

Eyes: green, blue, grey, big, small;

Hair: short, long, wavy, curly, straight, fair, light/dark brown;

Face: round, oval, square, long;

Nose: straight, turned- up, snub;

Other features: beard, moustache, glasses, broad shoulders, full lips, friendly smile, dark/light complexion, bald, wrinkles, freckles.

2.Научиться употреблять времена Present Simple (настоящее простое время) и Present Progressive (настоящее продолженное).

3.Выполнить упражнения № 9,10.

4.Прослушать текст и выполнить задания (упр.№ 10,11).

5.Научиться: описывать внешность человека, черты его характера, личные особенности, чувства и эмоции.

6.Научиться переводить на родной язык тексты, содержащие описание внешности человека, его характера, чувств и эмоций.

Самостоятельная работа:

написать рекламное объявление о найме двух актеров для съемок в т/c “Офис”, указав возраст, характер героев, которых необходимо сыграть.

Занятие 1.1.3 Анкетные данные Personal details

Цели занятия:

образовательная: расширение лингвистического кругозора

развивающая: развитие речевых способностей в процессе овладения языком

воспитательная: поддержание интереса к учению и формированию познавательной активности;

практическая: развитие навыка употребления лексики в письменной речи.

Задания:

1.Освоить лексику по теме: «Анкетные данные»: surname, first name, age, married, single, languages, country, address, job, to hire, interview, applicant, letter of application, to apply for, position, CV, resume, education, interests, skills, work experience, reference

2.Научиться употреблять Present Simple (настоящее простое) и Present Progressive (настоящее продолженное) времена.

3.Прочитать текст-резюме и выполнить упражнения № 12, 14, 15.

4.Прослушать диалог-интервью и выполнить упражнение № 16.

5.Выполнить письменное задание (упр. № 17).

6.Научиться читать и понимать детальную информацию, содержащуюся в резюме, CV, анкетах.

7.Научиться:переводить информацию о личных, профессиональных и образовательных данных, содержащихся в сопроводительных письмах и CV.

Самостоятельная работа: подготовить резюме.

1. What does “good eye contact” mean?

2. How can “eye contact”be interpreted in different countries?

Eye contact

In many Western societies, including the United States, a person who doesn’t maintain “good eye contact” is regarded as being slightly suspicious, or a “shifty” character. Americans unconsciously associate people who avoid eye contact as unfriendly, insecure, untrustworthy, inattentive and impersonal. However, in contrast, Japanese children are taught at school to direct their gaze at the region of their teacher’s Adam’s apple or tie knot, and, as adults, Japanese lower their eyes when speaking to a superior, a gesture of respect.

Latin American cultures, as well as some African cultures, such as Nigeria, have longer looking time, but prolonged eye contact from an individual of lower status is considered disrespectful. In the US, it is considered rude to stare – regardless of who is looking at whom. In contrast, the polite Englishman is taught to pay strict attention to a speaker, to listen carefully, and to blink his eyes to let the speaker know he or she has been understood as well, as heard. Americans signal interest and comprehension by bobbing their heads or grunting.

A widening of the eyes can also be interpreted differently, depending on circumstances and culture. Take, for instance, the case of an American and a Chinese discussing the terms of a proposed contract. Regardless of the language in which the proposed contract is carried out, the US negotiator may interpret a Chinese person’s widened eyes as an expression of astonishment instead of as a danger signal (its true meaning) of politely expressed anger.

Ex 6. If necessary, read the text again. Then comment on the following:

Ex 10. Work in pairs and check your answers. Do you remember in detail what Raj’s answers were? Now listen again and check.

Ex 11. Work in pairs and answer the questions about greetings in ex.9. How many similarities and differences do you have?

Ex 12. Prepare a report about greetings in other countries. Present this information to your group.

Ex 1. a) Look at the pictures. Which of the pictures show someone with:

a) a pale complexion?

b) light-brown skin?

c) very dark skin and a wide, flattish nose?

d) dark slanting eyes and a yellow complexion?

e) dark brown eyes and dark skin?

b) Listen and match the numbers to the pictures.

Ex 2. a) Read the information and answer the questions:

a) People from countries such as Denmark, Norway and Sweden are usually tall with fair hair, blue eyes and a pale complexion.

b) Most people in Mediterranean countries, such as Italy, Spain and Greece, are rather short. They have usually got black or dark brown hair, brown eyes and light brown skin.

c) Most people from central and southern parts of Africa have got black curly hair and very dark skin. They have also dark brown eyes, full lips and a wide, flattish nose.

d) People from Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Libya have usually got dark hair and dark brown eyes. They have also got dark skin.

e) The northern Chinese are quite short, with thick black hair and dark, slanting eyes. They have got a small nose and a yellowish complexion.

Questions:

b) Read the information again and explain the words in bold.

People with full lips are usually responsible. You can always trust them to do what you ask them to do. They are also decisive; they make decisions quickly. On the other hand, they tend to be rather bossy. They like telling other people what to do!

People who have a thin upper lip and full lower lip are energetic. They work very hard and like participating in a lot of activities. They are ambitious as well; they want to be successful in life. However, these people tend to be self-centered. They seem to only care about themselves and they sometimes forget about other people's feelings.

People with thin lips are determined; they know what they want and they do all they can to get it. They are careful people who do their work with a lot of attention and thought. However, they tend to be reserved; they don't like showing their feelings or expressing their opinions. They can also be mean; they don't like sharing things or spending money.

People who have lips with down-turning corners are very generous. They love giving things to other people and helping them. They are also intelligent and understand difficult subjects quickly and easily. On the other hand, they can be sensitive at times; they get upset easily, so be careful of what you say to them.
