Marriage of Usa and Aniruddha and their departure to Dvaraka

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, thus receiving several of the boons, Banasura was delighted at heart. Then achieving the position of Mahakala, he proceeded with lord Siva.

On the other hand Shri Krishna, asked Narada repeatedly, "Where is Aniruddha, bound in Nagapasa? I would like to know correctly. My heart has been filled with affection. With the obduction of Aniruddha, the entire city of Dvaraka has been disturbed.

Therefore we shall get him released from the bondage in no time. This is the purpose for our arrival here. The enemy of Aniruddha has been destroyed. Now we intend to meet him. 0 Narada, performer of the excellent vratas, you are well aware of the place, where Aniruddha is kept captive."

At these words of Shri Krishna, Narada replied, "O Madhava, the prince Aniruddha has been kept captive in the palace of the princess bound with the serpent noose."

In the mean time Citralekha suddenly appeared and spoke, " О Deva, the one, who has worshipped lord Siva, taking him to be the supreme, this is the inner apartment or heram of Banasura. Therefore you enter it comfortably.

Then Balarama, Garuda, Shri Krishna, and Narada entered the heram of Banasura to get Aniruddha released from the bondage.

At the mere sight of Garuda, the serpents, which had coiled around the body of Aniruddha, separated themselves from his body and then fell down on earth and were turned into ordinary arrows.

At the sight and the touch of Shri Krishna, the glorious Aniruddha was delighted at heart. He stood up and spoke with the folded hands.

Aniruddha said — О Kesava, the god of gods, you have always been victorious in the battle ground. О lord, even Indra can not face you.

Thereafter the wise Aniruddha delightfully offered his salutation to Balabhadra.

Thereafter he conveyed his respect to Madhava as well as Garuda, the king of birds and then went to his father Pradyumna and offered his salutation to him.

Thereafter, Usa, accompanied with her hand maids living in the same palace, arrived and offered her salutation to the valorous Balarama, the terrific Vasudeva besides Garuda, who could move with great speed. Then she moved on to Pradyumna - the carrier of flower bow and shyly offered her salutation to him as well.

Then at the instance of Indra, the illustrious Narada, again approached Shri Krishna smilingly and congratulating Govinda, he said to him, "O Govinda, it is a matter of great fortune that your fame has risen high with your meeting with Aniruddha.

Thereafter Aniruddha and all other bowed at the feet of Narada and stood aside. The divine sage, then blessing them all, for their uplift said to Shri Krishna.

"O lord, you perform the virya type marriage, here of Aniruddha with Usa. I am anxious to witness the womanly jokes of the ladies of the bride's side of the people of the groom's side."

On hearing the words of Narada, all those present there, started laughing. Thereafter Shri Krishna said, to Narada, "O great sage, you perform the marriage of Aniruddha and Usa. There should be no further delay."

In the meantime Kumbhanda the chief minister arrieved there with the material for the performing of the marriage and he said to Shri Krishna.

Kumbhanda said — О Krishna, О valorous one, you assure me protection. О Devesvara, I take refuge in you. Be pleased with me. I stand here before you with folded arms."

Lord Krishna had learnt everything from Narada about Kumbhanda. Recalling his own talk with Narada, he assuring protection to Kumbhanda said," О best of ministers, Kumbhanda, performing the excellent vrata, I am aware of the noble deed performed by you. You exercise yourself as the lord of this nation and live here comfortably with your kiths and kins. I present you with this kingdom. Now you enjoy long life under my patronage."

Thus bestowing the kingship on Kumbhanda Shri Krishna performed the marriage ceremony of Aniruddha. Lord of fire, himself attended the function by arriving there in person.

The marriage of Aniruddha was performed in an auspicious constellation. The apsaras attended the welfare ceremony.

Aniruddha then with his wife was adorned with all the ornaments. The Gandharvas then started the singing of the welfare songs. The apsaras started dancing adding to the grace of the marriage ceremony.

With the performing of the marriage of Aniruddha, Shri Krishna who was surrounded by all the gods, getting permission from Lord Siva the bestower of boons, thought of returning to Dvaraka.

Realising that Madhusiidhana Krishna, was ready to return to Dvaraka, Kumbhanda spoke to Shri Krishna.

"О Madhava, the cows of Banasura, are in the hands of Varuna, they yield nectar like milk. A person becomes strong and valorous by consuming that milk, besides becoming invincible.

Shri Hari was delighted at the words of Kumbhanda. He firmly resolved to depart from that place.

Thereafter Brahma also congratulating Shri Krishna left for Brahmaloka, having been surrounded by the people of Brahmaloka.

Indra also moved towards Dvaraka accompanied by Marudganas. They also moved towards the direction to which Shri Krishna was moving and they continued to travel with him.

The goddess Parvati herself bade farewell to Usa, who was surrounded by her female friends and was mounted over the chariot driven by the peacocks, towards Dvaraka.

Balabhadra, Shri Krishna, Pradyumna and Aniruddha — all the four of them were mounted over Garuda.

Garuda — the best of the ascetic birds, uprooting the trees, and shaking the earth, departed from there.

At the departure of Garuda all the directions were disturbed, the sky was covered with dust, and the rays of the sun were faded out.

Then all the best of the humans advanced towards their path. All the valorous ones, were marching towards Dvaraka, defeating Banasura.

Reaching high in the sky, all of them started moving towards the western direction. Suddenly all the great souls spotted thousands of the divine cows of one and the same colour, which yielded the divine milk. All of them were grazing in the forest located over the seashore.

Recalling the words of Kumbhanda Shri Krishna, atonce recognised the divine cows which belonged to Banasura and he mentally decided to capture them all. Then Shri Krishna — the cause of the universe, spoke, while seated over Garuda.

Shri Krishna said — О son of Vinata, you move to the place where the cows of Banasura are grazing. It is said that a human attains eternity after consuming the milk of these cows.

Satyabhama had desired me "to bring for her the cows of Banasura, consuming whose milk even the asuras never grow old.

Not only that, even when the old people consume their milk, they regain their youthfulness and are deprived of old age. О master, in case, it might not be irreligious, then you should bring the cows, or in case, any obstruction develops in the task, then you need not worry for the cows." This is what had Satyabhama spoken to me. I have found out that these are the cows, belonging to Banasura.

Garuda said — О lord, these are the same cows, it appears. But at my sight all of them have disappeared in the oceanic water. Therefore, you should do whatever is appropriate.

Thus speaking, Garuda, suddenly, disturbed the ocean with the fluttering oi his wings. Then they entered the dwelling place of Varuna.

Finding the forceful entry of Garuda in the abode of Varuna, all the soldiers of Varuna were up set and disturbed.

Then the invincible army of Varuna, equipped with the various types of weapons, attacked Shri Krishna. At that point of time the soldiers of Varuna fought a terrific battle with Garuda.

The thousands of invincible warriors of Varuna were killed by Kesava.

The Varuna's warrior in terror entered the abode of thereafter sixty six thousand charioteers of Varuna, reached on battle field getting equipped with the shining weapons, and started fighting in the battle ground.

Baladeva, Shri Krishna, Pradyumna, Aniruddha, and Garuda — the great warriors, shooting sharp arrows drove out the charioteers of Varuna.

Shri Krishna who performed great deeds without much efforts, drove out the army of Varuna, observing which, Varuna was immensely enraged. He came out of his abode and reached the place where Shri Krishna was present.

At that point of time, a large number of Rishis, gods, Gandharvas, groups of apsaras, were offering prayer to him. Varuna appeared there in his own form.

A beautiful white umbrella was hanging over his head, from which the drops of water were falling on the ground. He held an excellent bow in his hand.

Varuna — the lord of waters, filled with rage stood there with a huge bow, with his sons, grand sons and the warriors, as if challanging for waging the war.

Initially Varuna blew the couch. Thereafter, he in anger, ponced upon Shri Krishna like Rudra attacking lord Visnu. Getting enraged he covered Shri Krishna with his arrows.

Then the great warrior Shri Krishna while blowing the Pancajanya couch, covered all the directions with his arrows.

Even after feeling painful with the arrows shot by Shri Krishna, Varuna kept on fighting with Shri Krishna, smilingly.

Then lord Vasudeva sanctifying the Vaisnavastra standing before him, said to him.

"O Varuna deva, I, for the sake of killing you, have picked up the terrific Vaisnavastra. Now you stand erect."

On hearing this, the valorous Varuna, in order to face the Vaisnava weapon, got ready and holding the Varunastra in his hand, he thundered aloud.

The weapon of Varuna, had huge quality of water and was filled, which started appearing atonce. Then Varuna desirous of victory intended to neutralise the Vaisnavastra with the same.

But the moment the streams of water from the Varunastra fell over Vaisnavastra, they raised the fire flames. To the contrary those flames burnt the soldiers of Varuna. Thus with the burning of the Vaisnavastra, the warriors of Varuna were frightened and started fleeing in all the directions.

Finding his entire army in flames Varuna said to Shri Krishna, "0 excellent one, you remember your earlier Prakrti, which has the visible as well as invisible form. You destroy the darkness (tarnogina). Why are you getting confused with tamoguna?

O Yogisvara, 0 intellectual one, you have always been lodged in sattvaguna. Therefore you being the refuge of the Pancabhutas, you remove all the blemishes like ignorance, pride, attraction, jealousy and fear of death, besides the arrogance.

I happen to be senior to you in all of your Vaisnava forms. Being senior, I deserve to be respected by you. Then why do you want to bum me?

O Shri Krishna, the best among the warriors, in case the fire is unable to establish its superiority over fire, then you should not be angry. My supriority cannot be exercised on you, because you are the eternal cause of the world.

In earlier times you had created Maya, which is going to be transformed into the blemishes like Mahatattvas. Therefore it is lodged in you having emerged out of you.

With the use of the same Prakrti, you yourself have created the pleasent Vaisnavastra and the entire universe has also been created by you. Being the supreme soul and creator of the universe, what type of treatment is being extended by you towards me.

O excellent one, you are invincible, eternal god, selfborn and lord Siva. You are perishable and imperishable, bhava and abhava are your own form.

O sinless Krishna, you better protect me. I am entitled to be protected by you. Salutation to you, you are the creator of the universe. It is you, who have expanded the visible world.

O Mahadeva, as a child plays with the toys, similarly you sport with the universe. You are the cause of this world. I am neither enveous of you nor do I blame you in any way.

O immensely illustrious Purusottama, the Prakrti found in the arrogance and other blemishes, you subside the wicked people in order to over come them.

O sinless one, or otherwise the anger and other blemishes are meant for the deficiencies of the wicked people and not to denounce you. You always destroy the wicked people and not noble ones.

When the universe overpowered with the blemishes is deprived of its wisdom or having been overpowered with rajoguna or the cause of vices is engaged in collection or discarding, then the confusion overpowers the same.

You like Prajapati are well aware of the cause and the task, omnisceint, taking refuge of the fortunes function. Then why are you confusing us?"

At these words of Varuna, lord Krishna, the refuge of the entire universe, creator of all, patient by temperanent was mentally pleased with Varuna. Then he spoke to him smilingly.

Shri Krishna said — О immensely valorous warriors, you give me back the cows to subside the controversy." On hearing the words of Shri Krishna, Varuna, who was quite good at talk again said to Shri Krishna, "O Madhusudana, you first listen to my words."

Varuna said — " In earlier times, I took a vow with Banasura and keeping that vow in view, I cannot act contrary to it.

What type of a person is the one who enters into a vow with others. By breaking a vow, one’s conduct is blemished and the noble people do not regard him any more.

О Madhusudana, the noble people discard for ever a person who breaks his vow. Such a sinner can never reach the excellent lokas.

О Madhusudana, be pleased with me. Let me not fall from dharma. О Madhusudana do not force me to break my vow.

О Govinda, having the vast eyes resembling the bull, I shall never part with these cows during my life time. You can take them after killing me. This the vow which was undertaken by me in earlier times.

О MadhusUdana, О valorous one, I have narrated my vow to you. This is true and there is no falsehood in it.

О valorous MadhusUdana, in case I am entitled to your grace, then you protect me. In case you are desirous of cows alone, then you better kill me and take the cows."

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, at these words of Varuna, Shri Krishna of Yadu Vamsa, keeping in view the vow of Varuna, stopped the conflict over the same.

Then Shri Krishna who was well versed in the human dealings, smilingly said, " In case you have taken such a vow with Banasura, then you are freed from this conflict.

Then Shri Krishna, spoke sweet words to Varunadeva, "O lord, Varunadeva, how can I misbehave with you?

О Varunadeva, you can go. Now you are free. Besides being truthful, you are our relative as well. I have withdrawn my demand over the cows of Banasura, in order to please you. There is no doubt about it.

Thereafter Varunadeva, adored lord Krishna, with the sound of musical instruments. Accepting the arghya from Varuna, Shri Krishna acceptful also his adoration.

Thereafter, Varunadeva, concentrating his mind like a healthy person also adored Balabhadra. Thereafter Shri Krishna assuring Varuna variously moved on to Dvaraka, with Indra, the spouse of Sari.

Thereafter the eternal Shri Krishna followed by the gods, Marudganas, Sadhyas, Siddhas, Caranas, Gandharvas, apsaras and Kinnaras, moved through the aerial way.

The Adityas, Vasus, Rudras Asvani- kumaras, Yaksas, Raksasas, Vidyadharas, besides other siddhas and Caranas also followed him.

Narada, the great sage was also moving towards Dvaraka. He was quite happy for Shri Krishna's victory over Banasura as well the pleasing of Varuna on the way.

Then MadhusUdana the carrier of cakra and gada, spotted the city of Dvaraka which was decorated with flower garlands and the palaces as high as the Kailasa mountain. He sounded the couch Panchajanya from a distance. In this way Shri Krishna informed the people of Dvaraka about his arrival there.

The entire of Dvaraka was blossomed with delight, with the sound of the moving planes and the sound of couch, Pancajanya.

The people of the city had placed at the doors of their houses a pitchers filled with water. The fried paddy was spread. Besides extensive decorations were carried out. By doing this, they immensely decorated the entire city.

All the streets and the lanes were cleaned and decorated. The grace of the city was increased. Several types of gems were used for decoration. Brahmanas as well as the family priests raised the slogans of victory, carrying arghyas. They adored the beautiful Krishna who was seated over Garuda and looked like the heap of collyrium.

At that point of time, all of them worshipped Shri Krishna, offering their salutation to him. The people of all the Varnas, started adoring Shri Krishna, the killer of demon Kesl. The traders and merchants also worshipped Shri Krishna.

At that point of time, all the gods, Rishis, Gandharvas, caranas and others were singing in praise of Krishna in an orchard.

The excellent people of the race of yadus, witnessed the surprise with their own eyes. At the return of Shri Krishna, after his victory over Banasura, all the gods felt immensely delighted.

At the return of Shri Krishna, the people of Dvaraka started talking variously.

This Garuda travelled at long distance and returned in no time. Grateful are we when we have been so grateful to the lord, who happens to be our protector, having long arms. Mounting over Garuda, he defeated the terrific Daitya Banasura who invincible. Lord Krishna delighting our minds, has now returned to this place.

When the people of Dvaraka were so talking, the gods from the heaven suddenly arrived in Dvaraka and entered the palace of Krishna.

At the sametime Balarama, Shri Krishna, Pradyumna and Aniruddha also at once descended from Garuda and entered their respective abodes.

Thereafter, the planes of the gods, which were roaming in the sky, looked like having been stationary in the sky, which were of different types.

The planes had the forms of swans, bulls, stags, elephants, horses, cranes, and peacocks. They were thousands in number and covered the sky.

Then lord Krishna, addressed the Yadavas princes, who had collected there in thousands, in a sweet and intimate voice.

О boys, the Rudras, Adityas, Vasus, AsvanikUmaras, Sadhyas, and other gods have arrived here. All of you should offer your salutation to them respectively.

Lord Indra, who frightens the Daityas, and having a thousand eyes, has arrived here mounted over his elephant together with his attendants. All of you should I collectively adore him.

The great seven sages, besides Bhrgu and j Brhaspati are standing here closeby. The j other great Rishis also have arrived. All of you should offer your salutation to them respectfully.

All the Lokapalas holding cakras are standing here. The oceans, lakes, directions and sub-directions are standing here (in human forms) have arrived here to do good to me. All of you should adore them respectively.

The serpent Vasuki and other valorous nagas and cows have arrived here to do good to me. All of you should offer your salutation to them respectively.

All the stars with constellations have arrived here. Besides the Raksasas and the Kirmaras have also arrived here to please me. Therefore, all of you should adore them."

On hearing the words of Lord Vasudeva, all the Yadava princes bowed in revernce to all the gods as well as the sages and then stood aside.

The people of the city were totally surprised at the presence of the gods. They at once brought the materials for worship there.

At that point of time, they spoke the following words from their mouths: — "It is surprising, by taking refuge with lord Krishna, we are witnessing the great wonders.

Thereafter, the people of the city adoring all the gods, started spreading the sandal paste everywhere. They offered also the fragrant flowers.

They offered the parched rice and also offered them salutation again and again. They offered inscense, lamps and naivedya playing on various types of musical instruments observing the Vrata of ahirnsa etc. In this way all the people of Dvaraka adored all the gods.

Thereafter, Indra, the lord of gods, embraced the king Ugrasena, lord Vasudeva, Samba — the son of Yadu race, Satyaki, Ulmuka, the valorous Viprthu, AkrUra — the great, besides Nisatha, smelling their heads. Then the great Indra who was being adored by all the Yadavas, addressed Shri Krishna — the killer of demon Kesi, thus.

"Shri Krishna, is the foremost among the Yadavas of Satvat — race. He in the battle ground has displayed his glory and prowess, freed his grandson Aniruddha from the bondage, in full view of lord Siva, Karttikeya, defeating Banasura and has now returned to Dvaraka.

Banasura had a thousand arms, but he left him with two arms only. He established him with two arms and Shri Hari has reached his city of Dvaraka.

The purpose for which lord Krishna has incarnated on earth, has now been accomplished. He has removed all the sufferings of the gods.

О Yadavas, now your time will pass by enjoying all the worldly pleasures and consuming the sweet madhu (wine) quite delightfully.

All the gods, taking refuge under the arms of Shri Krishna, have been relieved of mesiras and grief. Now we shall comfortably dwell in the heaven.

Thus praying lord Krishna, the killer of Danavas, getting surrounded by all the gods, the great Indra, begged for leave from the lord. Thereafter again embracing Shri Krishna, who is adored the world over, Indra, together with the gods and Marudganas returned to the heaven.

The auspicious Rishis also blessing Shri Krishna for victory and felicitating him at the same time, returned by the same way by which they had arrived. Similarly, the Raksasas the Yaksas, and Kinnaras too returned to their respective places.

After the departure of Indra to the heaven, the valorous Shri Krishna enquired about the welfare of all the Yadavas.

Then thousands of citizens dancing with delight, having been filled with surprise, started coming and going to have a look at the moon like face of Shri Krishna. The sinless Krishna always felt delighted with the love of the people.

After arriving in Dvaraka, possessing enormous riches Shri Krishna enjoying all the desired things of pleasure lived happily with the yadavas.
