Battle between Shri Krishna and lord Siva, Brahma highlights the similarity between Hari and Нага

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, with the use of Vaisnavastra, when the entire universe plunged in darkness, and lord Siva started burning with its lustre, at the influence of the Vaisnava weapon, Nandi, the chariot or lord Rudra could not be seen.

Then the body of Siva in anger became doubly resplendent. Then he held a weapon with four blades.

The three eyed lord Siva placed the arrow over the bow and was about to shoot it, at lord Vasudeva, who could read the minds of other, could well understand the intention of Siva.

Thereafter lord Purusottama who moved swiftly, shot a Jrmbhastra which overpowered the lord Siva with fatigue.

As a result of this, lord Siva, feeling fatigued started having deep sighs. Lord Siva who had always been victorious over the gods as well as the asuras, lost his consciousness.

Banasura, finding Siva feeling fatigued and having deep breath, instigated lord Siva for fighting again and again, since the demon was overpowered with intoxication.

Then the valorous Shri Krishna who happens to be the soul of all the bhiitas uttered a lion's roar in deep voice, blowing the couch loudly at the same time.

With the sound of the Pancajanya conch, the sound issued from the Sarang bow, and finding lord Siva getting fatigued, all the living beings were shaken.

In the mean time the ganas of Siva taking refuge of illusory war, surrounded Pradyumna from all the sides.

But the valorous Pradyumna — also known as crocodile — bannered, put them under the influence of sleep, killed all the Danavas and a large number of pramathas.

Thereafter Mahadeva, who performs great feats without much efforts, overpowered with fatigue, emitted a fire flame from his mouth which appeared like burning all the directions.

At that point of time, the shaken earth goddess, having suffered at the hads of the great souls, went to Brahma, the creator of the universe.

The Earth goddess said — О lord of gods, of valorous one, I am suffering from the great prowess. Having suffered considerably from the burden of lord Siva, it appears that I shall have to submerge in the oceanic waters.

О grand sire, this burden is intolerable for me. You kindly give a thought to this.

You kindly do something that I should carry the burden of the earth feeling light.

Thereafter, Brahma, the grand sire, spoke to the Earth goddess, thus: — "You some how carry on bearing the weights for two more ghadis (or forty eight minutes). Thereafter you would feel fairly lighter."

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, thereafter Brahma, met lord Rudra and thus spoke to him. (At your command alone) the killing of the horrible asuras has been taken up. Then why do you protect the asuras?

I do not like your fighting with Shri Krishna - the valorous one. You are unable to understand Sr! Krishna. In fact your own soul has been divided into two."

At these words of Brahma, the eternal lord Siva, meditated himself and entered the heart of Brahaman and witnessed the presence of the moblile and immobile living beings therein.

Lord Siva, who is the form of Yoga, entered the Yogic samadhi, thought of the boons he had given earlier, and recalling all that had happened in Dvaraka, he gave no reply to Brahma, but he withdrew himself from the battle ground.

He found himself having been established in the form of Shri Krishna and thought that he himself had emerged out of a yoni in the form of Brahman. Thereafter Rudradeva, withdrew himself from the battle ground. Thereafter he stopped the waging of war with Shri Krishna or further entering into any verbal conflict with him.

Thereafter Rudra said to Brahma, "O Brahma, Henceforth I shall not at all fight a war with Shri Krishna. Let the earth feel light."

Thereafter, both Rudra and Shri Krishna met each other, with delight and agreed end to te mutual conflict.

Both Rudra and Shri Krishna are the yogis and both of them have an inseparable relationship with each other. This aspect could not be noticed by any one, Brahma then, after exclusively establishing the inseparable link between both of them, visualised then, with the same intention. Then, he, observing all of them, he spotted Narada as well as Markandeya there possessing the far sight, enquired of them.

The Grand Sire said — "I while sleeping over the rear side of the Mandaracala mountain, found both Siva and Shri Krishna, standing over the bank of the lake, suddenly both of them got exchanged for each other. In other words the body of Siva was turned as that of Krishna and vice versa.

I found Нага in the form of Hari, carrying in his four hands Sankha, Cakra, gada (and lotus). He was clad in a pitamabara (or yellow garment).

On the other hand, Shri Hari was clad in a tiger skins, holding a trident in his hand. Lord Siva was seated over Garuda, while Shri Hari held the bull-banner, riding over a bull.

О Maharsi, performer of the best of Vrata, I was extremely astonished at the astonishing sight. О lord you kindly explain the secret exhaustively in a realistic manner.

Markandeya said — I offer my salutation to Siva in the form of Visnu, and Visnu in the form of Siva. I find no difference between the two. Observing my feelings, let both of them bestow welfare on me.

The one who is the begining middle or end, who is indestructible and eternal being Aksara — Brahma, his form is that of Hari- Hara of Brahman, I shall describe before you the same, Hari Haratmaka.

The one who is Visnu happens to be Rudra as well and the same Rudra is Brahma as well. The basic form of both of them is one and the same, because of the separation of their functions, they have been given the names of Rudra, Visnu and Brahma.

All of them are the creator of the world, bestower of the boons, lord of the worlds, Svayambhu, Ardhamansvara, possessing Tivra-vrata.

As the water poured in the water, takes to the same form merging in it, similarly Visnu getting absorbed in Rudra, takes to the same form.

As the fire flame merging into the fire takes to the same form, similarly Rudra getting absorbed in Visnu, takes to his form.

Rudra has also been known as the fire, while Visnu has also been known as soma or the moon. Because of this, the entire universe, is also known as Agnisomatmaka.

Both Hari and Нага are the creators of the mobile and immobile creatures on earth, being destroyer, bestower of welfare on this as well as the influencial Mahesvara.

Both Narayana and Mahesvara, are the creator as well as the cause of the eternal creation. They also extract work from the performer and the cause of the same.

Не is the preserver of the world, he is the creator of the soma, Brahma, Visnu and Siva, pour water in the form of the rain; are illuminated with the sun, and moon everywhere with the wind. Thus create the universe. О Grand sire, I have revealed to you the top secret.

The one who recites this stotra daily and the one who listen to it, he achieves te final beautitude by the grace of Visnu and Rudra.

I shall offer prayer to Hari and Нага who are meeting Brahma. Both of them are the supreme lords, besides being the creator and the destroyer of the world.
