Chitralekha’s encounter with Narada, carrying of Aniruddha by Citraiekha to Sonitpur secret marriage of Aniruddha and Usa, capture of Aniruddha by Daitya army

Vaishampayana said: О Janamejaya, then reaching close to the city of Dvaraka, Citraiekha stood besides a house and thought of sending a message to Aniruddha.

She then thought of the matter, by which a task could be established. When Citralikha was so engrossed in her thoughts, she suddenly spotted the sage Narada who was meditating in the oceanic water.

Looking at him the eyes of Citraiekha started beaming. She went to him and offering her salutation to him she stood before him lowering her mouth.

Narada showered his blessings on her and said to Citraiekha, “What for have you arrived here? I would like to know the cause truthfully.”

Thereafter, Citraiekha, folding her both the hands, spoke to the divine sage Narada, who was respected the world over.

Then she said,»O lord, you listen to my wards. I have arrived here as a messenger. О sage, I would like to carry Aniruddha from this place. I also tell you the purpose for it.

The great asura known as Banasura lives in Sonitpura, who has a beautiful daughter known by the name of Usa.

She has fallen in love with Aniruddha — the son of Pradyumna. According to the boon of the goddess Parvati, Aniruddha is destined to be her husband.

I have arrived here to carry him from this place. You kindly do something for the success of my purpose. О great sage, you kindly convey this message to Shri Krishna, after Aniruddha arrives in Sonitpura.

There would surely be a war between Banasura and Shri Krishna. The great asura uses the divine power in the battle field.

The great asura possessed a thousand arms and reaching the battleground, then he cannot be overpowered by Aniruddha. It is only Shri Krishna who can conquer him.

O lord, I have arrived before you with the desire as to how lord Krishna should be apprised of the situation?

О lord, by your grace, I am not at all afraid of Shri Krishna because he is well versed in the tattva. But, you tell me how to kidnap Aniruddha?

O valorous sage, in case Shri Krishna is annoyed, he can reduce the universe into ashes. Because of the pain of the separation from his grand son, he can reduce me to ashes with his curse.

Therefore, О lord, you kindly think of a remedy, by which Usa is able to meet her beloved and I also escape any dangerous situation.”

At these words of Citralekha, Narada - the fortunate one, spoke the auspicious words to Citralekha, “O Cithralekha, donot be afraid. You listen, I shall speak out the remedy to relieve you of any possible danger.

O damsel with auspicious smile, when you carry Aniruddha to Sonitpur and he enters the palace of Usa, and when the possibility of a war arises, you can remember me.

О pleasent one, I am always interested in witnessing the war. I feel delighted by witnessing the war. At the same time my resolve for making others to wage a war is fortified.

You receive the black magic (tamasl - Vidya) from me, which confuses all the people. 0 goddess, the ceremonies which are required to be performed for the success of the Vidya, have already been performed by me myself. Therefore this Vidya is a total success, which is going to be bestowed on you.”

At these words of Narada, the great sage, Citralekha, who could move with the speed of mind, said, “Be it so” and then accepted the command of Narada.

Thereafter Citralekha, offering her salutation to Narada, the best of the Rishis, moved on to the palace of Aniruddha, through sky way.

The beautiful palace of Pradyumna was located in the centre of Dvaraka. The palace of Aniruddha was located close to it. Citralekha entered into the palace of Aniruddha.

The pedestals and pillars of gold were made in the palace. Its gates were also made of gold studded with corals. The arches were made of the flower garlands. The pitchers filled with water, added to the beauty of the palace. The palace was designed like a peacock neck, because a huge log of wood over which the stone pillars had been made. The gems and the corals were studded in the palace in such a way as if the best were covered with the same. The sound of the music played by the Deva — gandharvas, was echocing in the palace.

Citralekha carefully saw the palace, where both Pradyumna and Aniruddha lived comfortably. Entering the vast palace suddenly, Citralekha — the best of the apsaras, found Aniruddha surrounded by the beautiful damsels as the moon is surrounded by the stars.

In the sporting hall, beautiful damsels were engaged in serving him. He was drinking the sweet beverages and looked graceful with high glory.

Like Kubera — the lord of riches, he was seated over a lion throne. The musical instruments were being played before him accompanied with singing.

But he felt disinterested in song and music. He was thinking of his union with Usa. The all virtuous dancing girls were dancing here and there.

But Citralekha observed that inspite of all the enjoyments available, Aniruddha was not feeling interseted.

Surely, he too was haunted by the dream. With her wisdom, she arrived at the same conclusion and was relieved of any fear.

Finding Aniruddha so surrounded by the damsels like Indradhvaja Citralekha started thinking.

“How should the task be established? In what way shall I achieve welfare? Thus thinking, the glorious Citralekha, with beautiful eyes, making use of the black magic covered all except Aniruddha.

Then descending from the sky she stood over the palace roof and spoke sweet words to Aniruddha — the son of Pradyumna.

Bestowing on his the divine sight, she displayed herself before him and then spoke to him in a lonely place.

O valorous warrior of Yadu’s race. Are you perfectly well in every way? Are your day and the evening time spent in comfort? О valorous prince, I have brought a news for you. You please listen to the same.

I shall correctly speak out the news about my handmaid Usa, who was visualized by you in the dream and embraced her as your wife.

She carried you in your heart. I have been sent by her. The poor girl weeps again and again, twists her body and resorts to deep sigh.

О excellent one, she is waiting for an audience with you. Becoming passionate, she is suffering a lot. She can survive only in case you go to her and live with her.

In case she is unable to meet you, her death is imminent, there is no doubt about it. О son of Yadu’s race, in case thousands of damsels have entered your heart, but still you should accept the hand of a damsel, who is in love with you.

While bestowing a boon on her, the goddess Parvati, had given her desired husband. I have given her your portait. She is living by looking at your portrait.

О best of Yadu’s race, be compassionate to fulfil her desire. О son of the race of Yadus, Usa, offers her salutation placing her head over your feet. We her handmaids also offer our salutation to you in reverence.

You listen about the birth of Usa, besides the details of her family and temperament. I shall also tell you about her form, nature and the details of her parents.

Bali — the son of Virocana, has a son named Bana who is the ruler of Sonitpura. His daughter named Usa, intends to get you as her husband. Her mind always remained attracted towards you. In fact, you are her life.

The goddess Parvati had given you as the suitable husband for her. There is no doubt about it. Usa possessing all the aupicious symbols besides the beautiful waist, is getting desirous of a union with you in remaining alive.”

On hearing the words of Citralekha, Aniruddha spoke to her, “O graceful one, I have seen her in dream and what was the result of it, you listen from me. After the dream, I have been always dreaming of her, her looks, her beauty, wisdom and the pleasure of the union with her, besides her words and the cries. I remain confused thereafter.

О Citralekha, in case, I am entitled to your kindness and in case you intend to develop friendship with me, then take me with you. I would like to meet Usa, who is dearer to me than my life.

I am suffering from fever of lust. Therefore with the desire of my union with my beloved, I have folded my hands before you. You better make my dream, a reality.”

On hearing the words of Aniruddha, Citralekha — the best of apsaras, thought in her mind, ‘The efforts made by me today, have been successful. The thing which my hand maid had desired from me has been found.”

Vaishampayana said: О Janamejaya, realising about, the desire of Aniruddha, the excellent damsel Citralekha, was extremely pleased and she said, “very well. I shall act accordingly.”

Concealing Aniruddha, from the valorous Pradyumna, who was seated'in the balcony surrounded by the ladies, Citralekha flew in the sky, with him.

She could move with the speed of the mind. Flying in the sky which was served by the siddhas and the Caranas, she suddenly entered the city of Sonitpura.

The apsara -Citralekha, who could take to any form at will, concealed Aniruddha by her illusion, reached the place where the illustrious Usa was lodged.

Then she made Usa to have an audience with Aniruddha, who was adorned with the best of wonderful ornaments.

Usa was at that point of time seated in the balcony surrounded by the girls. Finding the presence of Aniruddha there, she felt extremely wonderful. She at once made him enter her palace.

Having an audience with her beloved, the eyes of Usa blossomed in delight. Usa who was well-versed in the accomplishment of her own task, remaining in the balcony, offered arghya to Aniruddha — the prince of the race of Yadus, adoring him at the same time.

Then she embrace Citralekha, pleased her with sweet words. Thereafter, the beautiful Usa, feeling nervous with panick, at once spoke to Citralekha.

“О handmaid, you are quite well-versed in establishing a task, “You tell me, how to keep all this as secret. In case it is kept a secret, we shall meet with welfare. In case the secret is out then both of us would surely be in trouble and ouer lives would be in danger.”

Then Citralekha said, “О handmaid, you listen to my decision, the task established with great efforts is distroyed by the destiny in no time.

In case the grace of Parvati would be favourable to you, then the deed performed by me with the illusion, shall not be known to anyone.”

At these words of Citralekha, the mind of Usa was stabalised. Then she said, “you have spoken truthfully.” Then addressing Aniruddha, she said.

“It is a matter of great fortune, that the beautiful thief who met me in the dream, has been found by me as my husband in physical form. The one for whom, all of us had been feeling disgusted. I had desired for a beloved who was diffcult to achieve. I was worried for that.

О Valorous one, is everything well at your end? The heart of the ladies is quite tender. Because of that I am enquiring about your welfare.”

On hearing the loveble words of Usa, Aniruddha — the lion of the race of Yadus, also spoke in beautiful words.

First of all he wiped out the blissful tears from the cheeks of Usa. Then smilingly, he spoke words, which stole her mind.

О beautiful one, all is well with me by your grace. О goddess who speaks little, I offer you the pleasent words.

О good looking one, this country had not been seen by me earlier, I had seen it once in a dream on the abode of a girl. The same has been found by me today.

О damsel, by your grace only, I have been able to arrive here. The words of Parvati, the spouse of Rudra can never be otherwise.

О beautiful one, Parvati the godess loves you very much. Therefore in order to do good to you, I have reahced here today. Be pleased with me. I have arrived to take - refuge with you.”

At these words of Aniruddha, Usa, who was adorned with the best of ornaments, was united with her beloved and atonce reached the private parts. At that point of time she appeared somewhat fearful.

Thereafter both of them by means of the Gandharva type of marriage, they accepted mutually to become husband and wife, united with each other, as the ruddy goose unite during the day. Similarly both of them united with each other.

Usa the best of the girls, using the best of fragrance and pastes, was extremely delighted after her union with her beloved Aniruddha.

While so uniting with Aniruddha, her father Bariasura was totally unaware of the same. But the secret guards who had been deployed by Banaasura, they at once came to know, that Aniruddha — the prince of the solar race, who was adorned with the divine paste, divine of garland, divine costumes, had united with Usa.

The spies narrated the sin of his daughter to Banasura, as had been witnessed, by them.

As a result of this, the son of Bali — the performer of the horrible deeds, commanded the army of his servents.

“О soldiers, all of you should march together and kill the evil minded human, who had polluted the heart and has blemished the grace of our race.

With the earning of the blemish by Usa, our entire race has been blemished. The wicked human has grabbed Usa, without being given by us to him and has defiled her sanctity.

It is strange, the prowess of this evil minded human is astonishing. Surprising is his stubbornness, as a result of which this wicked person, has not only entered our city, but our abode as well.”

Thus speaking Banasura, again inspired the soldiers particularly. At his command, all the soldiers, wearing the coat of arms, marched on for waging a war. All of them were quite strong. Therefore they reached the place, without any obstruction, where Aniruddha was lodged.

They were carrying several types of arms. The appeard in many forms, the frightening Danavas, were enraged with the desire to kill Aniruddha.

Observing the army of soldiers, the eyes of glorious Usa were filled tears. She started crying, getting apprehensive of the killing of Aniruddha.

She lamented, “O my beloved, О lord of my life”, uttering this she started shaking. Finding the doe eyed Usa, so lamenting, Aniruddha said to her.

О beautiful one, you should not at all be afraid of anything. You need not worry till I am here. This is the time of pleasure, which has arrived for you. There is absolutely no cause of worry.

О glorious one, even if the entire army of Banasura arrives, even then there is no cause of worry for me. О beautiful one, you will witness my prowess today.

Listening to the tumult of the soldiers advancing towards himself, Aniruddha - the son of Pradyumna, uttered, “What is this?” thus speaking, he got up suddenly.

Thereafter he found that the soldiers carrying various types of arms, had surrounded the palace from all the sides.

Then he, getting enraged, depending upon his own strength, moved to the place, which had been surrounded by the army. At that point of time he was biting his lips with his teeth.

In the meantime, finding the soldiers of Banasura, getting ready for waging a war, apsara Citralekha, remembered Narada - the divine Rishi.

Soon after the remembering of the sage Narada by Citralekha, Narada — the great sage arrived in Sonitapur, with the twinkling of the eye.

Remaining in the sky, there, he spoke to Aniruddha, “O great warrior, let you meet with welfare. Donot be afraid. I have already arrived in your city.

Finding Narada before him, the valorous Aniruddha, offered his salutation to him. Then feeling delighted, he got ready for waging the war.

At that point of time, listening to the tumultous noise of the advancing soldiers, he suddenly moved on like an elephant inured with a goad.

Pressing his lips with the teeth, descending from the palace, the soldiers found Aniruddha advancing towards them, several of the soldiers fled away in panic.

Standing at the gate of the inner apartments, holding a beautiful parigha in his hand, Aniruddha, who was well versed in various types of war fare, activated it for the killing of the soldiers.

Then all the soldiers, who started showering the rain of arrows, clubs, musalas, Saktis, and the spears.

At the showering of the arrows and parighas, from all the sides, Aniruddha — the son of Prayumna, did not feel disturbed, because he happened to be the soul of all the bhUtas. He thundered like the clouds of the rainy season and weilding the terrific parigha took his position in the middle of the enemies and he appeared like the sun having been surrounded by the clouds from all the sides.

At that point of time Narada — wearing the skin of the black buck and carrying danda, delightfully spoke to Aniruddha, “O valorous one, well done, well done.”

Having been struck with the awful parigha, all the soldiers fled in terror, the clouds being carried by the wind.

The excellentally valorous Aniruddha drove out the Danavas, with the strike of his parigha, started roaring like a lion in the battle ground.

As the cloud thuder aloud in the sky during the rainy season, similarly Aniruddha — the son of Pradyumna, shouted at the Danavas and said, “stay on”. At the sametime he started killing them.

Finding that a large number of soldiers were being killed in the battle field by the great warrior Aniruddha, rest of the soldiers fled the battle ground and reached the place, where Banasura was present.

Those soldiers, standing before Banasura all the Danavas started started breathing heavily. Their bodies were soaked in blood. They were feeling nervous and panicky. All the Daityas were therefore upset.

The king Banasura then commanded them, «O foremost of the Danavas, donot be afraid. Donot be afraid, shed away the fear and fight unitedly.”

At these words of Banasura, the eyes of the soldiers remained frightful. Observing this Banasura said, “How is it, that all of you forgetting the well known glory of your prowess the world over, are getting frightened like the cowards, losing consciousness.

Who is the person, getting frightened from whom, all of you are fleeing in groups? The race of all of you is well known and you are also well-versed in various types qf warefare. (Then why do you display such cowardice).

Vety well you run away. I no more need your help in the war. Get out of my sight.

Thus the valorous Banasura, speaking harsh words, frightening them again and again, commanded ten thousand other soldiers for waging the war.

Thereafter he commanded a terrific army contingent for the capture of Aniruddha, which mostly comprised of pramathas (special types of the attendants of lord Siva). The entire army held various type of weapons.

Thereafter the soldiers of Banasura having the eyes like the clouds with lightinening, were spread in the vast part of the sky.

Some of the soldiers took their position on earth started trumpeting like the elephants. Some of them looked graceful like the clouds of the rainy season.

Then the vast demon army collected once again, at that point of time only the words like “Stop, keep on standing” were heard.

The valorous Aniruddha, alone was facing all of them. At the time when he (Aniruddha) was facing the huge army alone, a wonderful thing happened.

He started fighting alone with the immensely powerful Danavas. He snatched the parighas and the tomaras of the enemy.

The valorous warrior Aniruddha, using the parighas of the enemy, killed all the enemies. During the war he shot the parighas and again got them back.

Aniruddha — the destroyer of the enemy, turned positions variously with the parighas wounded in the battleground alone. (He changed thirty two types of positions while waging the war.

Standing in the battlefield, like the god of death opening his mouth, he used the parigha in many ways, Anirudha found the enemy forces having collected there in thousands.

At that point of time, the Danavas, who were drowned in the flow of the blood, shattering their own military formations, fled away from the battle field and reached before Banasura.

The elephants, horses, the groups of chariots carried the demon soldiers to all the sides. The defeated Danavas, crying aloud were fleeing in all the sides.

All of them were extremely frightened and fled away in panic trampling one another. While so fleeing they also vomited blood.

While fighting with the gods in earlier times, the Danavas had not frightened that much, as they were frightened during their fight with Aniruddha.

Many of the Danavas with gigantic bodies like the mountain peaks holding spears, clubs, and swords, fell down on earth, vomiting blood.

At that point of time in the battlefield, the defeated Danavas getting upset after their defeat, flew in the sky, deserting Banasura.

As the fire is inflamed with the dropping of the wooden stricks in the fire altar, smilarly finding his vast army having been completety shattered, Banasura started burning in anger.

In the meantime, the immensely enraged Daitya king Banasura mounted over the chariot driven by Kumbhanda and reached the place where Aniruddha had been standing holding a sword in his hand.

Banasura was holding in his thousand arms, the weapons like, pattisa, swords, gadas, spears, battle-axes as well as hundreds of other weapons. With hundereds of flags fluttering over his chariot, he appeared graceful like Devaraja Indra. He wore the gloves made of lizard skin over his fingers. He was carrying several type of weapons in his arms and with them, the king of the Danavas looked quite graceful.

His eyes were red, he roared like a lion and pulling the string of the vast bow he uttered, “You keep on standing, keep on standing”.

On hearing the words of Banasura, Aniruddha, the son of Pradyumna, who was infallible, looked at the face of Banasura and started laughing.

The vast chariot of Banasura was equivelent to a nalva (four thousand feet) in size. Hundreds of small bells were studded in it, the sound of which echoed in the sky. The flags and banners of the chariot were of red colour. On all the joints of the skin of the Rsya deer had been placed.

The Danava of a gigantic size, was seated over a chariot driven by a thousand horses, in the same way as in the fight between the gods and the asura, (one thousand horses were) yoked in the chariot of Hiranyakasipu.

Aniruddha, the foremost of the race of Yadus, witnessed the Danava attacking on him. He was then filled with delight and enthusiasm, besides becoming resplendent.

As lord Narasimha looked graceful in earlier times for the killing of Hiranyakasipu, similarly Aniruddha, desirous of waging a war stood there holding a sword and a shield.

At that point of time, Banasura found Aniruddha, standing holding a sword and a shield. With the intention of killing Aniruddha, Banasura felt delighted carrying a sword and a shield alone.

He was without the coat of arms and held only a sword in his hand, Banasura realised that Aniruddha was infallible (inspite of his being ill-equipped). Thus thinking he, without any doubt, got ready for waging a war.

Banasura, who was always adorned with victory, spoke in rage to Aniruddha. “Capture and kill him?

Thus thundering in the battle ground by Banasura, made Aniruddha to laugh at him, who looked in anger at the demon.

Then Aniruddha stood there erect, reassuring the beautiful Usa who felt panicky of the approching war.

Banasura, getting enraged in the battle field, with the desire of killing Aniruddha, started showering arrows of Ksudraha style from all the sides. But Aniruddha intended to defeat Banasrura, therefore he destroyed all the arrows shot by Banasura at him.

Then Banasura, again with the intention of killing Aniruddha, showered the rain of Ksudraka arrows at his head.

At that time, Aniruddha, playfully scattered thousands of arrows using his shield alone and appeared like the rising sun, in the battleground.

Aniruddha, thus humiliated Banasura in the battle ground, fearlessly stood there in the same way as a lion stands before an elephant in the forest fearlessly.

Banasura then, wounded the invincible Aniruddha — the son of Pradyumna, with the shooting of his sharp arrows which moved swiftly.

Having been wounded with the arrows of Banasura, Aniruddha then pounced upon Banasura, holding his sword and shield. Realising the fierce attack of Aniruddha, the asura further wounded him (Aniruddha) with his own arrows.

With the injuries sustained by Aniruddha with the curved arrows of Banasura, he started burning with rage. Then he decided to perform a terrific deed.

Having been covered with the rain of arrows, all the limbs of Aniruddha were soaked in blood. Thus receiving setback, Aniruddha’s anger was increased and then he walked towards the chariot of Banasura. At that point of time, even after having been hurt with swords, musalas, spears, pattisas, tomaras and clustres of arrows, Aniruddha remained unshaken.

Suddenly he jumped in anger and he cut off the yokes of the chariot and also killed the horses with the use of arms.

Banasura — who was well versed in waging the war, then again showered the rain of pattisas, tomaras, and the arrows. By so doing he almost covered Aniruddha.

Then taking Aniruddha to have been dead, Banasura started raoring aloud. In the mean time Aniruddha took a long jump and reached the rear of the chariot and stood there.

Then the enraged Banasura, held a terrific and awful Sakti in his hand, which was issuing fire flames. The terrific sakti was adorned with the garland of small bells. Its lustre resembled that of the fire or the sun. It looked horrible like Yamadanda. The Daitya then shot the same sakti over Aniruddha, like the burning comet.

Then Aniruddha, jumped up and held the Sakti which could end the life, in his hand and using the same Sakti, he tore out Bandsura’s body and then entered the earth.

Having been deeply wounded with the Sakti, Banasura, rested against the flagpole. Finding him fainted Kumbhanda said to Banasura.

O king of Danavas, why do you neglect the enemy, who is so arrogant? This great warrior has achieved his goal, therefore he looks unblemished.

You fight back with the help of illusion (Maya) otherwise he is not going to be killed. You better protect yourself as well as myself. Why do you neglect him out of arrogance?

You kill him just now lest, he might destroy us all. In case you are not alert, then he killing hundreds of other warriors, shall go away with Usa.

Inspired with the words of Kumbhanda, the Danava king Banasura, who was the best of orators, getting enraged spoke extremely harsh words.

He said, ‘Very well, I shall despatch him to the abode of Yama just now in the battle field. As Garuda pourcies upon the serpents, I am also going to capture him.”

Thus speaking, Banasura disappeared with chariot, flags, horses, and the charioteer, like Gandharvanagar.

The valorous and illusory Danava, concealing himself started showering rain of sharp arrows at Aniruddha. At the disappearing of Banasura, the invincible Aniruddha, feeling enthusiastically, looked towards all the directions.

Then the enraged Banasura, the son of Bali, making use of the black magic, concealing himself showered the sharp arrows at Aniruddha.

Aniruddha — the son of Pradyumna then was bound by the serpent arrows from all the sides. His entire body was bound by the serpents from all the sides.

With the binding of all his limbs with the serpents in the battle field, Aniruddha — the son of Pradyumna, was made inactive and he stood there unmoved like the Mainaka mountain.

Having been in bondage with the serpent hooded snakes and with the stoppage of all his activities, Aniruddha, the soul of all the bhUtas, never felt painful at heart.

Then the enraged Banasura demounced Aniruddha with harsh words. Then leaning against his flagpole, he uttered words in anger.

“О Kumbhanda you kill this person who is the blemish for my race. He is the evil minded person who has defeated my race.

At these words of Banasura, Kumbhanda said, I would like to say something in this connection. In case you so desire, you may listen to me what I have to say.

First of all you ascertain about his parentage and the place from where he has arrived or who has brought the great warrior like Indra here?

О king, I have observed minutely while the war was on. He appeared sportive like the divine princes in the war.

О best of the Daityas, he is strong patient and is well versed in use of all the armoury therefore he is does not deserve to be killed.

Your daughter has already united with him in Gandharva type of marriage. Therefore she is unfit to be given to anyone else nor is she fit to be accpted by others. You should kill him only after deep consideration.

First of all we should know about his antecedents and then he should be killed or worshipped. His killing is full of blemishes, while his protection is quite virtuous.

He is respectable being the best of the humans. Look here, he is bound by the serpents from all the sides, still he does not feel painful. He possesses prowess, strength and patience of his race.

O king, look here, having been bound with the powerful serpents, and in this captured position thus valorous and best of humans, hardly cares for we people.

Had he not been in bondage due to illusion, then he could fight not only with the asuras alone, but also the gods. There is no doubt about it.

He is well-versed in all the ways of the war. He is superior to you in strength and prowess. All his limbs are soaked in blood, still he hardly cares for the presence of all of us curving his eye brows.

Even after his having placed in such a positions, depending on his own strength of arms, he hardly cares for you. In fact this youth is a wonderful great warrior.

A great warrior with only two arms is facing a great warrior with a thousand arms in the battle ground. Because of his own strength of arms, he considers you to be of no consequence.

О foremost of the asuras, your daughter has established her relationship with him. Therefore, she cannot be given to anyone else. In case of his having been born in a noble race, then he is desirable for us. In that case, this great warrior shall get adored by us.

Therefore, you better protect him. “Saying this Kambhanda kept quiet. At these words of Kumbhanda, Banasura, the killer of the enemies, uttered, “Be it so”, and then kept quite.

Then keeping the intelligent, under the - care of the guards, Banasura, the son of Bali, returned to his abode.

When Narada found that Aniruddha had been made captured at once he went to the city of Dvaraka, by the sky way.

At the departure of the sage Narada, Aniruddha thought in his mind, “The cruel Danava has hidden somewhere. He would again come for a war, there is no doubt about it.

Narada shall convey the news of this place to Shri Krishna, the holder of couch, cakra and gada. There is no doubt about it.

Having been bound with the serpent noose, Aniruddha became inactive. Finding this Usa started crying. Her eyes were filled with tears but Aniruddha said to her.

О damsel, why are you crying like this? Don’t be afraid. О beautiful one, look here, lord Madhusudana is about to arrive here for my sake. The one who with the blowing of the couch, sound of the arms, and the glory of his prowess, is sure to kill the Danavas and he wives of asuras will also abort.”

Vaishampayana said: О Janamejaya, at these words of Aniruddha, Usa was assured. Then the beautiful Usa with slender waist, started grieving for his sinless father.

Here ends chapter — 119, of Visnu Parva of the Harivariisa Purana, a supplement of the epic of Mahabharata relating to Citralekha’s encounter with Narada etc. (Vrs. 1-203. P.T. = 9916)
