Satyabhama reveals the cause of her anger, Narada the origin of Parijata





Vaishampayana said — О Bharata, Shri Krishna — the force of Narayana then spoke to enraged and wife Satyabhama, who had been quite chaste.

Shri Krishna said — O lotus eyed damsel, the grief I have got by your so suffering, is burning all limbs. What is the reason for your becoming so upset?

O damsel with all the beautiful limbs, I take an oath on my life and ask you, in case you do not desire my destruction and in case the reason is worth revealing to a husband who is devoted to his wife, then tell me the same.

But Satyabhama kept her face down before Shri Krishna who was truthful and performer of vratas, and spoke in choked voice, with tears flowing from her eyes.

O killer of KesI, you extend honours to others, you had established my Saubhagya (fortunes) which was well known in the world.

Because of being your beloved, I could walk with pride raising my head. I was praised by all the virtuous women.

But now I have become a laughing stock before the people as well as my cowives. My slave girls, have heard something from here and there and has communicated the same to me.

The Parijata flower which had been given by Narada to you and it was given over by you to your beloved, neglecting me at the same time.

The thing which was more valuable then all the pearls and gems, was given over by you to Rukmini, you had revealed special honour for her.

It is said, that Narada had praised your beloved in y,our presence, which was lovingly heard by you.

In case Narada was to praise her in your presence, then why did he mention the name of an unfortunate person like me?

In case by initially serving the nectar of love, and had to agonise me subsequently, then you should permit me to go and to perform the tapas. You kindly do me this favour.

O lotus eyed one, I have heard that the thing which I could not believe by witnessing even in my dream, has happened in your presence. Whatever I had thought about you, things have you against that.

О lord in case the sage had a desire to praise Rukmini, he could do so, but what pains me and had enraged me is that it was all done in your presence.

You had once declared that the best of people live in the world for getting grace. Therefore under these circumstances, I donot want to remain alive by getting thus humiliated.

Alas! who had been protecting me throughout in the past, the danger has been caused by him today. The one who always protected me from all the sides, is unable to protect me now.

О lord, О master, after your discarding me, what shall be my fate? Having been deprived of your company, I shall be like the night lotus, which fades out without the moon rays.

O Praiseworthy lord, I know not what type of good or bad had been done by me for the gods, by which, inspite of my being your beloved, have fallen from grace.

When being a beloved, I have fallen from that stage, then how could I witness the glory of the Raivataka mountain blossoming with flower?

I became the cause of your jealousy and getting blemished due to misfortune, how could I be able to enjoy the frangrance of the flowers of this place mixed with the sweet notes of the cuckoo birds?

О lord by remaining in your lap and enjoying the water sport in the vast ocean, becoming fortunate and presently facing misfortune, how can I venture to look at the ocean.

You had been saying to me, «O daughter of Satrdjit, there is none else dearer to me than you. You believe me”, where have the words gone? Otherwise, who is going to remember those words?

When you honoured me, then my blissful mother-in-law looked at me with great honour. Now getting humiliated at your hands, you shall find her lean and thin, due or misfortune.

O excellent one, what is the use of my immense love? Whom you, the form of god, do not consider like others.

O Sabjugator of the enemies, I never knew you so wicked and deceitful. Your true form has been exposed today. You side with my co-wife. You cheat a simple and helpless woman like me.

О lord, you had concealed your true form, by your sweet voice, complexion, efforts and your body making all the efforts. But О thief, your true form has been exposed. You side with my co-wife and are sweet by your tongue, but in reality you are wicked.”

In this way having been over powered with jealousy the proud goddess Satyabhama — the daughter of Satrajit, was assured by Shri Krishna, speaking these words.

“O damsel with lotus eyes, О goddess of my life, donot talk like that. What is the use of talking so much on the subject? You take me to be your own.

О goddess, Narada — the performer of the great tasks without much efforts had given the Parijata flower to me in presence of Rukmini for my god and I handed over the same to RukaminI out of my liberal view, as desired by her. There is no doubt about it. О beloved with auspicious smile, in case this is a crime in your eyes, then you kindly bear it and be pleased with me.

О beloved, filled with immense anger, having best of thighs, in case you are desirous of the Parijata flower, then I shall surely give it to you. I speak this truthfully.

I shall bring the Parijata tree from the heaven and shall establish it in your abode, for us as long as you wish it to be there.”

At these words of Shri Krishna, Satyabhama — the beloved of Hari, said, “O Acyuta, in case the said tree could be brought here, then I discard the anger and my comfort gets increased many times. О Visnu, in that case, I shall become the most glorious of all the virtuous ladies in the world.

The Madhusudana, the cause of the creation and the destruction of the world said to Satyabhama, “very well, let this be the best means to remove your anger.”

О Janamejaya, you have always been victorious in war, lord Shri Krishna then said, “Be it so” and then accepted her request. Then the goddess of the noble soul, the beloved of Shri Krishna — the killer of Kaihsa was immensely plesed.

Then lord Janaradhana, the creator of all, who fulfills all the desires of the noble people, took his bath and freed from other essential daily routines.

Thereafter Shri Krishna, mentally invoked the divine saint Narada, who was taking his bath in the great ocean at that time. After finishing his bath, he reached before Shri Krishna.

At his arrival the noble Shri Krishna, the incarnation of Visnu, the refuge of the noble people, welcomed Narada in the company of Satyabhama.

At that point of time the daughter of Satrajita, herself, washed the feet of Narada, while Shri Krishna dropped water from the water pot.

When Narada took his seat with comfort, then lord Krishna, the preceptor of the universe, who had controlled his own mind, served the sage, the best of the food.

With food served by Shri Krishna, the creator of the world, with the great honour Narada — the best of the orators, took it with great devotion.

Thereafter washing the hands and face, sipping the water, the sage was fully pleased, showering enormous blessings over the comple, which were delightfully accepted by lord Kesava.

Thereafter Satyabhama — the daughter of Satrajit, addussed her spreading his wet right hand.

О goddess, you always remain auspicious as you are at present. Because of the influence of my tapas you remain specially fortunate and virtuous.

О Naresvara, at these words of the sage Narada, Satyabhama — the beloved of Shri Hari, blossomed with delight.

Thereafter the eternal lord Krishna — the valorous and intelligent one, also took the remaining food of the yajna, with the permission of the sage Narada.

О son of Bharata’s race, thereafter, performing the other essential duties, Satyabhama too, with the permission of her husband, entered her abode with delight.

Thereafter again with the permission of Shri Krishna, the goddess Satya, came out and offering her salutation to the sage Narada took her seat besides Shri Krishna.

After sitting for two ghadis (forty four minutes) Narada said to Shri Krishna, О Visnu, now I shall proceed to Indraloka. Therefore I would like to have your permission for the same.

The gods, Gandharavas and apsaras will dance there for the pleasure of lord Mahesvara offering salutation to him.

О lord, every month the programme of dance and music is held for the adoration of Mahadeva, in the Mahadeva Bhavana.

Indra — the god of gods, the destroyer of mountains, organises the programme with his courtiers, while lord Siva, with Parvati witnesses the same invisibly.

О glamorous one, let you meet with welfare, Indra had invited me to that place, on the very first day presenting a Parjata flower to me.

О lord, the flower of Parijat which had been brought by me for you is to be used by the gods only.

О lotus eyed one the tree is immensely liked by Sad — the wife of Indra. It surely bestows Saubhgya in case it is worshipped daily.

The religious minded Kasayapa had created the Parijata tree for the achieving of merit by Aditi.

It is said that in earlier time, Aditi had pleased the sage Kasyapa with her devotion and service. Thereafter Kasyapa — the son of Maria asked her to seek for a boon as per her desire.

At that point of time she said, “O best of the sages, you kindly give me something by which I should always remain virtuous and fortunate. I should be adorned with all the ornaments at will. О great ascetic, I should get the dance and music to my liking, I should always look like a maiden besides being spotless, devoid of grief, devoted to husband and dharma.”

Then Kasyapa — the best of the sages in order to perform for the pleasure of Aditi, created Parijat which could bestow the desired things and was always blossoming with flowers.

It has always three branches and attracts all the living beings with its glamour. In that tree, the fruits of all the trees could be found.

The spouses of the gods adorn their bodies with the type of flowers brought by me. Others decorate themselves with various other types of flowers and still others pluck only the lotus flowers from that tree.

The sage Kasyapa, had created this tree by derivine essence of Mandara tree. Because of this, the Parijat tree is considered to be the best of all the divine trees.

Thereafter the goddess Aditi, possessing the auspicious symbols, for the increase of her merits and Saugbhagya, bound Kasyapa with it and gave it to me in charity.

For the achieving of merits, the intelligent sage Kasyapa was given away to me in charity. The sole purpose of the charity had been to enhance the merits.

At that point of time, I had freed the sage Kasyapa in exchange for riches. Similarly Indrani too gave away Indra in charity for the increase of her fortunes.

Rohini donated the moon, the goddess Rddhi donated Kubera, for the same purpose. Thus the Parijat tree bestowes and virtues to the women. There is no doubt about it.

This tree appeared over the bank of the Visnupadi — Ganga, which earned it the name of Parijat. Because of the combination of the flowers of Mandara tree, it is also called Mandara.

The people, who were not aware of it, s.they said, “what type of the tree is it?” Therefore this tree is also called Kovidara.

Thus the divine tree is also known by the names of Mandara, Kavidara, and Parijat, the flower of which had been brought by me.
