Water sport of Shri Krishna and Yadavas at Pindaraka tlrtha.

Janamejaya said — О sage, the episode of the killing of Andhaka is worth listening, which has been listened by me very well. By killing Andhaka, lord Mahadeva had made the world peaceful.

Now I would like to know the method by which lord Shri Krishna, killed the other body of Nikumbha and for what purpose? You kindly narrate the same.

Vaishampayana said: О sinless Rajendra, you are quite faithful. Therefore, it would be quite appropriate to narrate to you the story of Shri Hari, the lord of the universe.

О Naresvara, once upon a time, Shri Krishna, while staying at Dvaraka had an opportunity to visit Pindaraka tirtha, by sea route, from Dvaraka.

О son of Bharata’s race, he made the king Ugrasena and Vasudeva incharge of the city of Dvaraka, left them at Dvaraka itself. The rest of the people started on voyage.

Balarama was moving in a separte (coach) with his family, while the group of Shri Krishna the lord of the universe was separately moving. The illustrious princes moved separately in groups.

О Naresvara, thousands of the female dancers were also accompanying the Yadava princes. These singers and dancers were clad in beautiful costumes and were excellent ornaments during the journey.

The valorous Yadava warriors, became victorious over the dwelling place of the demons in the ocean, inhabited thousands of whores there.

The young damsels, cald in defferent types of costumes, served as ordinary play girls for the Yadava princess. All of them could be made use by the princes to their liking who could be desirous for any one of them. They were called royal girls because the princes only could make use of them.

О lord, the intelligent Shri Krishna had made such a type of arrangement for the Yadava of Bhlmavamsa, by which no enmity could develop among the Yadavas for the sake of women.

The glorious Balarama only kept the company of his wife Revati-like the pair of the ruddy goose.

He enjoyed (the company of his wife) besides the wine. Then Balarama adroned his neck with the garland of flowers and started water sport in the oceanic water.

The lotus eyed Shri Krishna — Govinda, took to as many forms as the number of damsels enjoyed water sport with his sixteen thousand wives.

On that particular night, all the queens of Shri Krishna, believed that each one of them was dear to the lord and Kesava was enjoying the water sport with her alone.

On all their, limbs, there were the symbols of the sexual intercourse. They felt satisfied with the same. Thereafter all of them held Shri Krishna in high esteem.

All the beautiful queens, delightfully revealed to their close relatives, their extreme pleasure, praising their own destiny besides that each one of them was extremely dear to lord Krishna.

The lotus eyed damsel, witnessed the nail bites on their breasts, tooth bites on their lips, and were filled with delight.

The beautiful wives of Shri Krishna sang songs including his names and passionately looked at his face with valuptuous eyes.

Their minds and eyes were always devoted to Shri Krishna. The beautiful wives of Narayana were extremely pleasent and were of firm resolve.

Narayana fulfilled all their desires keeping them totally satisfied. Therefore, by devoting their hearts to one person alone, they never felt jealous of one another.

All of them looked quite pleasent and felt graceful being the beloveds of Kesava, raising their heads in pride.

Shri Krishna who had controlled his mind, in his universal form, enjoyed sports in water, with all of them.

Because of the influence of lord Krishna, the water of the ocean, at that point of time was filled with all types of fragrances, became spotless, devoid of salt, tasteful and auspicious.

The oceanic water was at places knee deep, sometimes it was deep upto the thighs and at places it was as deep upto the chest. Only this much was needed by these damsels. The queens of Shri Krishna started splashing water over him from all the sides, as the strians of all the wives serve the great ocean. Lord Govinda also splashed water over them like the clouds pouring water over the blossoming creepers.

Many of the damsels with doe-like eyes, placing their arms around the neck of Shri Krishna, said to him, “O great warriors, you kindly embrace me. Entwine me in your arms, otherwise I shall drown in the water.

Several of the damsels with beautiful limbs, started floating over the oceanic water boarding in the boats available in the forms of kraunca birds, peacocks and the serpents.

The other damsels started floating over the surface of the water boarding the wooden boats of the forms of crocodiles, fish and several other creations. Several of the queens were swimming in the oceanic water, for the delight of Shri Krishna, swan over their pitcher like breasts in the water.

О best of the gods, Shri Krishna blissfully enjoyed the water sport, in the company of Rukmini — his chief queen. In whichever way he derieved comfort, the beautiful damsels acted in the same manner.

The lotus eyed damself having been covered with the fine clothes sported variously in the water with Shri Krishna.

Whatever feelings developed in the mind of each one of Shri Krishna’s queens, the lord well realising the mind of each one of them acted in a way to please one and all, overpowered each one of them.

He was the inspiration of the sense organs and the lord of all, the eternal lord Hrsikesa, was overpowered by his wives according the time and the place.

All those damsels, who behaved like their family traditions, considered that Shri Krishna behaved like the family tradition of each one of them and was suitable for them individually.

His wives, became desirous of Shri Krishna from their hearts, who looked with a smile, was large hearted, and was their beloved. Because of their utmost devotion for him, they more attached to him, respecting him at the same time.

The Yadava princes were assembling separately. All the Yadava prices were the mines of virtues and with their own lustre accompanied with the damses, added to the grace of the ocean.

О lord of the people, those damsels were well-versed in the acts of dancing and singing. Because of the glory of the princes they themselve had been attracted towards them. But still the princes were overpowered by the damsels, because of his large heartedness.

The immensely valorous Yadava princes were fascinated with excellent songs heard by them; they sung by the excellent damsels accompanied with the excellent music.

Thereafter, Shri Krishna, in his universal form, inspired the apsards from the abode of Indra, known as Pancacuda with other apsaras.

The eternal Jagidlsvara, Krishna lifted up the apsards, who had fallen over his feet with folded hands and spoke to them, assuring them at the same time.

“О beautiful damsels, you freely mix yourselves with the sporting girls of the Yadava princes and provide comforts to them to please me.

You display all the virtues possessed by you in playing of the musical instruments to all of them, besides the dancing, singing, self display in seclusion, and acting.

By your so doing, I shall bestow on you the welfare as per your liking. All the Yadavas are the forms of my body.

At once, accepting the command of Shri Krishna, all the apsaras joined the damsels sporting with the Yadavas princes.

О sinless king, at the joining of the apsaras with other dancing girls with the Yadava princes, the ocean of damsels became resplendent as the clouds become resplendent with the lighting on the sky.

The divine damsels standing over the water surface like the land, started singing heavenly songs as they did in the heaven accompanied with music and physical performance.

The damsels with vast eyes, decorating themselves with divine fragrant pastes, flower garlands and beautiful costumes, displayed their divine sports, comic performances stole the minds of the Yadava princes.

They displayed their performance with their eyebrows, indications, smiles, anger and pleasure and started attracting the minds of the prince of the Bhima-varhsa.

The apsaras enjoyed the company of the Yadava princess, carrying them by air in the sky, therefore, the princes getting intoxicated honoured those heavenly apsaras immensely.

Lord Krishna too, for the delight of the Yadava princes, accompanied with his sixty thousand wives, sported there with delight.

The valorous warriors possessed enormous strength were well aware of the influece of Shri Krishna, therefore they felt no surprise while sporting in the sky. They remained quite serious even in those conditions.

О destroyer of the enemies, son of Bharata’s race, some of the Yadava princes went to the Raivataka mountain and then returned therefrom. They returned after visiting the places of others.

At that point of time the immensely resplendent Visnu — the lord of the universe, the saltish water of the ocean also became potable.

The lotus eyed damsels freely moved in the water and earth at will and also took dips in the water collectively.

At the mere wish of the Yadavas several eatables, materials for sipping (sucking), drinking, licking etc. appeared before them.

The apsaras adorned with the garlands of the unfading flowers, following the methods of the performing the love sports with the gods, in the heaven, provided the Yadava princes opportunities to enjoy them in seclusion.

Andhaka who could not be defeated by anyone, and the warriors of the Vrsni — Vamsa, after the application of the pastes over their bodies filled with delight, started sporting in the house boats.

О son of the Kuru race, Visvakarma had built several types of palaces in the boats, some of which were longs, square, circular and of Svastika designs.

These palaces could take to any shape at will. Some of them could take to the forms of different types of birds, stags and the wolves.

The house had the arches of lapiz lazuli which added to the grandeur of the palaces. There were the astonishing types of beds studded with gems. They were decorated with emerald, magnifying glass and moon stones. There were thousand types of beds there which added to their grace.

The sports chambers had the designs of Garuda. These houses were decorated with golden rays of the sun. Some of them were designed like the heron birds, some of them resembled the parrots in shape, while many of the houseboats were designed like the elephants.

The boats which illumined like the gold, were controlled by the sailors, were adding the grace of the high waves of the ocean.

The white ships, the big boats for the use of the voyagers and the speedy boats, besides the house boats with palaces erected therein, looked quite impossive while sailing in the ocean.

The boats of Yadavas were floating on all the sides of the ocean like wandering in the Gandharva cities in the sky.

О Bharata, the boats, Visvakarma made the garlands like Nandanavana, which had the same form and grace.

There were gardens, trees, lakes and the fountains, which were added to the boats as the originals.

In the other types of (the luxury) boats, Visvakarma, had made, at the command of lord Narayana all the facilities of the heaven in brief.

The birds of those garlands issued sweet notes which delighted the mind, which appealed the most to the beautiful Yadavas.

The cuckoo birds — born in the temples, to please the Yadavas, issued the sweet and pleasing notes.

Over the white tops of the buildings resembling the moon rays, the peacocks issued sweet cries and were dancing surrounded by the other peacocks.

The groups of birds were found perched over the flags of the boats, from which the strings with flowers were hanging. The black wasps getting attracted towards them, were havering over them.

At the command of Narayana (Shri Krishna), the seasons and the trees, floating in the sky, started showering the excessive rain of flowers.

The pleasant and comfortable wind started blowing which removed the fatigue to the love sport.

О lord of the earth, getting engaged in the sports, desirous of heat or cold, they could everything to their liking as per their desires.

With the influence of lord Cakrapani, (holder of the disc) at that point of time the people of the race of Bhima, had no hunger or thirst, remorse, worries or grief, with them.

The water sports of the Yadavas were going on without obstruction. There was no let off in the playing of the musical instruments, besides the dance and music, which added to their grace.

The Yadavas comparable with Indra, were enjoying the water sports, making the oceanic water to stagnate for several yajnas.

Visvakarma had built a vast boat to accommodate the sixteen thousand queens of Shri Krishna.

All the best of the gems in the three worlds, had been studded in the ship of Shri Krishna.

For the use of Shri Krishna’s wives, serpent separete chambers had been built, which were studded with germs and lapiz lazuli, besides the gold, which looked extremely beautiful.

In those chambers, the flowers which blossomed in all the seasons, had been planted there. All types of fragrances were spread there, which made those chambers quite fragrant. The Yadava as well as the birds of the heaven lived there.

Here ends chapter — 88, of the Visnu Par\'a of the Harivarhsa Purana a supplementary to the epic of Mahabharata, relating to the water sports of Shri Krishna and Yadavas at Pindaraka tiratha. (Vrs. 1-81, P.T. = 8094)
