Attraction of Prabhavati towards Pradyumna, and entry of Yadava princes in Vajrapur

Vaishampayana spoke — О king Janamejaya, listening to the words of Indra, both the geese went to Vajrapura. The were already well verse about with the road leading to that city.

О Valorous one, both the birds purched over the lakes filled with lotus flowers of golden colour.

Both the geese could speak the chaste Sanskrit language and sported pleasently. Though they had already visited the city, but they kept in surprise all the people like the new comers.

Then they started picking their foods around the step wells meant for domestic use.

Both the geese issued sweet voice. The Daityas said to them, looking at them.

О geese, you always move in the heaven issuing sweet notes whenever there are festiveties here and you come to know about them, when you must reach here. This is your home. The geese of the heaven should enter the city fearlessly.”

О Bharata, at these words of Vajranabha, the birds said — “Be it so”, and accepted his words. Then both of them entered the palace of the Danava king.

Both of them in order to establish the task of the gods, gained knowledge of every place there. They spoke human language and narrated several types of stories.

The Danava damsels of the race of Kasyapa, who consumed the welfare materials, listening to the pleasent stories of their dynasties felt absorbed in the same.

Thereafter, both the geese, while wandering there, spotted suddenly, Prabhavati, wearing a serene smile over her face.

Then they became friendly with the young girl, with beautiful smile. The Princess Prabhavati, made friends with the she geese, known by the name of Suclmukhl.

Once upon a time Suchimukhi narrated hundreds of stories, and other beautiful speeches, gained enromous confidence in the mind of Prabhavati for herself. Then she said to her.

“О Prabhavati, I consider you to be the unique and the most beautiful girl of the universe. О goddess, you are indeed the best in beauty, humility and other virtues. Therefore I would like to tell you something.

O girl full of shyness, wearing a beautiful smile on your face, your youthful age is getting wasted for nothing. As the water flowing in the river cannot be reversed, therefore, the age which has passed already, cannot be reversed.

O goddess, О auspicious one, for the damsels in the world, therein no greater pleasure than the enjoying of the love sport. This is the truth being spoken by me.

О damsel with all the beautiful limbs, your father presented you in Svayambara but you failed to select anyone among the competent people from the gods and the asuras. (what is the reason for the same?

О auspicious one, having beautiful ears, at your refusal, all the people returned ashamed and disappointed. О goddess, you do not want to accept anyone, who is unequal to you in beauty, health and your race, (why do you do so?).

Then you tell me, why should Pradyumna, (an incarnation of the god of love) arrive here. There is none in the three worlds to compare with him in the race and beauty. О auspicious one, he indeed is the best of all in beauty and virtues, besides the strength.

О beauty with beautiful hips, the valorous Pradyumna is the god of gods, is great Danava among the Danavas, and is the noble human among the humans.

О goddess, as the milk oozes from the udder of the milk yielding cows, and the water flows from the streams, similarly the thighs of the ladies, is soacked at the sight of Pradyumna.

His face could not be compared even with the full moon, the eyes with the lotus flowers, and his style of walking with that of a lion, because all of them are of much lower standard (than the Yadava prince).

О beautiful and auspicious one, lord Visnu, extracting the juice of the entire world, has created that son.

During the childhood, Sarhbasura had stolen him, but after his growing up he killed the wicked demon and he usurped all his illusions. Still he has not desecrated the chastity of any girl.

О damsel with broad buttocks, whatever virtues you might conceive of in your mind, or whatever virtues are found in the three worlds, all are found enshrined in Pradyumna.

In lustre, he resemble the fire, in forgiveness, he can be equated with the earth, in shine or resplendence, he can be compared with the sun, and he is as deep as the ocean. On hearing this from SacimukhI, Prabhavati said:-

Prabhavati said — О beautiful one, I have heard several times from the mouths of Narada as well as my own father, that lord Visnu, has presently incarnated on earth.

О sinless, but arrogant one, the asuras who live in the Sakha-nagara, speak adversely about Visnu, as. “Visnu is famous as the enemy of the Daityas, therefore, he should be disowned for ever.

He had destroyed many Raksasas with his shining cakra, Saranga bow, and Kanmadi gada.

О female goose with auspicious smile, usually all the women are desirous of having a husband, who could be superior to her parental race.

In case Pradyumna could be brought here, then I shall indeed be indebted to you and my race would be purified.

O female goose, speaking pleasantly, I have enquired from you about the means to establish the task. You speak out the method to me. You make efforts by which, I could get Pradyumna — the prince of the Vrsni race as my husband.

I have heard from the mouths of the elderly demonesses that lord Visnu is the great enemy of Raksasas and is about to cause trouble to them.

I have heard about the story of Pradyumna earlier. The way in which Kalasmabara was killed at his hands, the relevants story has been heard by me.

О foremost of the female ascetics, Pradyumna, is always lodged in my heart. But I have no means to meet him.

О Respectable hand-maid, I am your slave girl and I entrust to you the job of a messenger. You are a learned one, you tell me a way out of enable me to meet Pradyumna.

Then the female goose spoke to her smilingly.

Suchimukhi said — О damsel with beautiful smile, I shall go there (to Pradyumna) as your messenger and shall narrate to him about your deep devotion for him.

О damsel with beautiful hips, I shall also make efforts, by which Pradyumna reaches before you, and you satisfy your urge meeting the god of love.

O princess with auspicious looks and broad eyes, you must keep my words in your heart. You should praise my excellence about the narration of stories to him and also tell him that Saclmukhi, is well versed in narrating the stories. О goddess, with your father you should always keep my welfare in mind.

At these words of Suchimukhi, Prabhavati did so as desired by her by the she goose. At that point of time Vajranabha, the demon king asked the female goose, “O Suchimukhi, Prabhavati has told me that you are past master in narrating stories. Therefore, О clever bird, you narrate some story to me, because you are quite competent. You tell me what is the surprise you have witnessed in the world?”

Then she goose, addressing the demon king Vajranabha said to him, “You listen, О best of the rulers.

О best of the Danavas, I have seen a female ascetic on the rear part of the Meru mountain, she is known by the name of Sandili and she performs astonishing deeds there.

I have also met with Kausalya, who is always engaged in the welfare of all the people. She is the hand maid of Sandili — the daughter of Himalaya.

I have seen an acrobat, who has received the desired boon from the Rishis. The acrobat has auspicious symbols and can change his form at will and can be served food. He is loved by the people of the universe.

He goes to Uttarakuru country and also visits Kalamradvipa. O sinless one, he also visits the islands of Bhadrasva, Ketumala besides other islands.

He also sings the songs which are sung by the gods and the Gandharvas. He is well versed with several types of dance as well. He even surprises the gods with his dances.”

Vajranabha said — Sometimes back, I also heard news about this acrobat from Siddhas and Caranas in considerable detail.

О delight of the birds, I am also getting anxious to meet the acrobat who had received the boons. But it appears that my fame has not reached his ears, (and because of that he has not visited this place so far).

The female goose said — О best of the Daityas, the acrobat wanders in all the seven islands and hearing the name of a virtues person, he goes to him. His performance is totally virtues. In case he learns about virtues, he would surely arrive here.

Vajranabha said — О auspicious one, о female goose — the delight of the birds, you do something, by which the acrobat could arrive here.

The goose, who had been sent by Vajranabha, for the accomplishment of his task, apprised Indra as well as Shri Krishna of the factual position.

Then Shri Krishna deputed Pradyumna for the purpose. His job was to develop friendship with Prabhavati, and to kill Vajranabha.

Then Shri Hari, depending on illusion, turned Pradyumna as an acrobat and deputed him to the city of Vajranabha. Other Yadavas too were sent in the guise of acrobats.

He made Pradyumna as a leader, Samba as a jester, and Gada as an attendant.

The other slave girls, were made the female acrobats, who could perform the dance and play on music, in appropriate guise.

All the valorous warriors boarded the plane made by Pradyumna and reached Vajrapur, for the establishment of the task of the gods.

All the men had similar faces. All the princes had the beauty of the ladies as well.

All of them reached Sabhapura, in the suburb of Vajrapura, which was filled with the Danavas.

Here ends chapter — 92, of the Visnu Parva of the Harivamsa Purana, a supplementary of the epic of the Mahabharata, relating to the attraction of Prabhavati towards Pradyumna and entry of Yadavas in Vajrapura. (Vrs. 1-63, P.T. = 8377)
