The story of Prthu - continued. Yielding of milk of the earth goddess.

Prthu said: О Vasudha, a person who on this earth earns sin when he kills for a person several of the living beings.

О noble one, when with the killing of a single person several of the persons get benefitted, one does not earn a sin or an offence.

When a wicked person engaged in evil ways is killed for the benefits of others, then the killing of such a person becomes meritorious.

Therefore О Vasundhara, in case you do not accept my words which are meant for the benefit of others, then I shall surely kill you for the sake of the people.

Presently you are getting averse to my rule, therefore by killing you with single arrow, shall contain the people by expanding my own body.

Therefore, О best of the religious minded people, you accepting my command, make entire populace to remain alive, because you are able to carry the people and make them live on earth.

At the same time, you become my daughter, only then I would be able to stop the terrific arrow which is meant to be shot at you.

Prthvi said:- О valorous one, I shall undoubtedly perform as you like, but the tasks are established when they are executed in a proper manner.

Therefore you yourself should search out such a method, by which you are able to well maintain your populace. (I shall however, speak out a method.) You search for a calf for me, in whom, I by developing love, yield the milk.

О foremost of the religious minded people, you first of all make me flat as a result of which, my milk spreads everywhere.

Vaishampayana said:- О Janamejaya, Prthu- the son of Vena, then raised up hundreds of the mountains, with the torch of the end of his bow, as a result of which the mountains were raised.

Thus Prthu the son of Vena, flattered the earth. In that last Manvantara, the earth was made uneven.

In the earlier Caksusa Manvantara, the different regions of the earth were naturally uneven.

Because of the earth being uneven, there had been no devisions of cities and villages.

During those times, no cereals were grown, nor was the protections of the cows there. There was no irrigation or crops, nor was there any trade mixed with truth and falsehood. At that time, there was neither any greed nor jeolousy.

О Rajendra, in the present Vaivasvata Manvantara, since the time of Prthu, the son of Vena, all the cereals were produced.

O sinless king, wherever, the land was made plain, the people liked to live there.

We have heard that prior to the milking of the earth by Prthu the son of Vena, the people lived on fruits and roots, which could be collected by them with great difficulty.

О best of humans, the glorious Prthu the son of Vena, made the selfborn Manu as the calf, milked all types of cereals from the earth, with his own hands. О adorable one, since that date, all the people are living on there cereals.

О Bharata, it is heard that the jRsis also milked the earth, with soma as the calf. The extremely, illustrious Brahaspati, the son of Angera, milked the earth, using the Vedas as the milking vase. As a result of this Tamomaya eternal Brahman, appeared as the milk.

It is also heard that Indra and other gods too milked the earth, in the vase of gold.

At that point of time Indra became the calf, while the sungod milked the cow. As a result of this the nectar like payasam emerged out of the milking. Therefore the gods always remain eternal.

It is also heard that the immensely strong manes also milked the earth in the vase of silver and received svadha as the milk.

The illustrious Yama, the son of Vivasvan served as their calf and kala the destroyer of the lokas became the person who milked the cow.

О best of the rulers, it has also been heard that the Nagas, made the serpents Taksaka as a calf and using gourd as the milk pots, milked the poison as the yield of the cow.

О lord of the earth, Let that point of time the serpent Airavata served as the calf and Dhrtarastra the glorious king of the serpents turned as the milkman.

The serpents in whose body the poison can the clearly seen, such poisons serpents, maintained their bodies with the use of the said poison, with the support of the poison, which serves as the strength to them, they maintain their glory in the world.

It is heard that the asuras too using an iron vase, milked the illusion, with which they destroy the enemies. At that point of time Virocana — the son of Prahlada, served as the calf, while the double headed Madha — the priest of the Daityas became the milkman.

The asuras with limitless intelligence, made use of the same illusion these days, which serves them as the enormous strength.

О adorable one, it is also heard, that after them, the earth was milked by the Yaksas as well. О lord, they milked the great knowledge of disappearing in a clay vase.

At the point of time Yaksas and Raksasas, made Kubera- the son of Visra- vana as the calf, and made Rajatnabha, the father of Manivara as the milkman.

Rajatanabha, the younger brother of the yaksas who was quite illustrious as well as a great tapasvi had three heads. With the knowledge of disappearing, the yaksas earn their livelihood. This is what has been spoken by Vyasadeva the great Rishi.

О best of the humans, thereafter the Raksasas and pisacas, using the human skull as the milking vase milked the earth for the satisfaction of their progeny.

О descendant of the Kuru dynasty, at that point of time, Rajatanabha served as the milkman, and Sumati officiated as the calf. О gem of Kaurava race, at that point of time they milked blood as milk.

Like the gods, the Yaksas, Raksas, Pisacas and the groups of goblins, maintain their livelihood with the same.

О best of the humans, then Apsaras and the Gandharvas also milked the earth using Citraratha as the calf and lotus leaf as the vase, which yielded the auspicious fragrance.

О excellent Bharata, at that point of time Gandharvaraja, who was quite illustrious and valorous, officiated as the milkman.

O king, it is heard, that even the mountains also milked the earth which yielded to them various types of gems.

At that point of time Himaacala officiated as the calf, Mahagiri Meru served as the milkman, using the vase of stone. The monitaus developed with the said milk.

О king, it is heard that by using the vase of the leaf of Butea frondosa tree, the trees also milked the earth and with the milk so yielded they got the ability to regrow even after burning and destruction, by sprouting again.

At that point of time the blossoming Sala tree had also milked the earth, using fig tree as the calf. Thus this earth- like the mother, accommodates everyone, feeds everyone, besides being auspecious.

This earth is the abode of all the mobile and immobile living beings. She is like the Kamadhenu cow, who fulfills the desires of all, besides making all the cereals to sprout.

In earlier times, the earth was filled with the fat of Madhu and Kailabha, which earned her the name of Medinl. Because of this the earth is called as Medinl by the Brahmavadis or the spokespersons of Brahman.

О king of Bharata’s race, then king Prthu, the son of Vena, when accepted the earth as his own daughter, she became his daughter and because of the same, she is called Prthivi. Thereafter Prthu divided the earth in several parts, purifying the same. He then made the earth as the mine of cereals etc. Then further making it progressive, he distributed it in the towns and villages. О best of king, the monarch Prthu was so influenced.

Therefore all the people should adore him undoubtedly. Even the Brahmanas well versed in the Vedas and post vedic literature should adore Prthu- the form of Visnu and a is Brahma - yoni.

The kings of great fortune desirous of passessing earth, should also adore Prthu- the son of Vena.

Such of the valorous kings who are desirous of victory in war, they should also adore the king Prthu, who is the foremost of ah the great warriors.

A warrior king who marches on the battle field remembering the name of the warrior king Prthu, he becomes victorious even in the terrific war and returns hale and hearty thereafter.

The rich traders, who earn their living by business, should also bow in reverence to the glorious king Prthu, who provided livelihood to the people.

Similarly the Brahmanas, Ksatriyas and Vaisyas desirous of welfare, besides the purified Sudras too should offer salutation to the king Prthu.

Thus I have narrated to you the story of the calves, the vases, the milking men, as well as the types of milk yielded, what else shall I tell you?

A person, listens to the story of Prthu in each one of the kalpas, from beginning to end, such a person shall enjoy bless on earth for long.
