Stay of Shri Krishna at Pariyatra mountain and other related activities

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, lord Krishna mouted over his chariot, moved towards the Pariyatra mountain, where the illustrious Indra was waiting, mounted over the elephant Airavata.

Finding Shri Krishna so arriving there the Pariyatra mountain, like the heap of black gram or the seeds of jute, was absorbed in the earth getting disintegrated.

For his own pleasure lord Vasudeva, behaved like that, because he was aware of the influence of lord Krishna. О Naresvara, with this conduct of the mountain, Shri Krishna — the lord of sense organs was pleased.

О son of the race of the Kuru, then while going for a war, Garuda, also followed Shri Krishna, carrying the Parijata tree.

Pradyumna was seated over Garuda, with Satyaki, guarding the tree at the same time.

О Naresvara, thereafter, the sun was set, and the (darkness of) night was spread everywhere. Inspite of the same, the fight between Shri Krishna and Indra continued.

The glorious lord Krishna finding Airavata having been badly wounded by Garuda said to Indra.

О valorous one, your excellent elephant has been incapacitated by Garuda. On the other the night also has fallen. Therefore, you can do as you like during tomorrow morning.” At this the influencial Indra said to Shri Krishna, “Be it so.”

О best of the kings, thereafter, the auspicious Indra, raising the certain of the mountain, stayed near Puskara.

О son of Kuru race, О Janesvara, thereafter, Brahma, Maharsi Kasyapa, the goddess Aditi, all the gods and the sages, the Sadhyas, Visvadevas, Nasatyas, Asvini- kumaras, Adityas, Rudras and the Vasus arrived at the scene.

On the other hand Shri Krishna accompanied with his son Pradyumna and Satyaki, spent the night delightfully over the Pariyatra mountain.

O Naresvara, the mountain had turned itself because of its devotion to Shri Krishna, like the heap of the black gram or seeds of jute, which pleased lord Krishna, who pronounced a boon on it.

“O great mountain, you will hence forth be known by the name of Sanapada. As half of the upper part of the Himalaya is quite auspicious, similarly you shall also remain auspicious and spotless.

О best of mountain, you will have enough of wild animals and grow high, competing with the Meru mountain. Finding you with enough of astonishing trees, I feel blissful.”

Thus bestowing the boon over the mountain, Shri Krishna offered his salutation to lord Mahadeva, invoked Ganga the best of the rivers.

О Bharata, with the recalling of Shri Krishna, Ganga — having born out of the feet of lord Visnu, at once arrived there. Then Shri Krishna — a form of Visnu, adoring her, took bath with her water.

Then the eternal Shri Krishna, carrying the water of Ganga and wood apple fruit, invoked Rudradeva — the lord of all.

The lord Siva arrived there with Parvati and Pramathas (goblins) and stood over the water of Ganga and the wood apple fruit.

Then Shri Krishna adored lord Rudra with the flowers of Parijata and offered prayer to lord Siva from his speech.

Shri Krishna said — “O lord, you are called Rudra because you make the world to cry, even to Ravana. Because of enormous sound and because of control of the birth and death, you are called Rudra. You are the foremost of all the gods. О lord, I am the devotee of your devotees and the loving one of your affectionate people. You kindly bestow success and victory. I take refuge with you who are kind to those who take refuge in you.

О god of gods, you happen to be the lord of the domestic as well as wild animals, because of which you are known as Pasupati. The entire universe represents your own activity. There is none in the world superior to you. You are Jagadisvara, and the destroyer of the enemies of the gods.

You are Isvara of crores of Isvaras as well as those of the humans. You are eternal Purusa, bestower of devotion, as well as the life. Because of this, the learned people well-versed in the scripture believe you to be the (supreme) Isvara.

You are destroyer of death, inspiration for wisdom, lord of the eternal living beings. Therefore you are invisible eternal Paramesvara, the creator of the universe. Because of this the people with wisdom, call you Bhava. In reality you nityasiddha or eternal success. You are benevolent to the benevolent lords, (then what to speak of the miserable people.

O lord, therefore all the defeated gods, asuras and all the living beings have established you over the position of Mahan- Isvara therefore all the people of learnings, call you Mahesvara, the creator of the universe and god of gods.

О Mahesvara, you are possessing stregth and prowess, bestower of boons, therefore, the gods who are always desirous of welfare, adore you as adorable lord. Therefore you are known as the lord Devadeva. You are the adorble god of the noble people. You create all the bhUtas within yourself only.

О lord, you are the endless god of the gods like Brahma and others, you create the universe again and again, therefore you are the only support of Bhuloka, Bhuvaloka and the Svaraloka — all the three lokas. Because of this your foremost name is Trayambaka. Your glory is beyond measure.

Because of your destructive nature, you are called Sarva. Because your controlling all the enemies you possess limitless prowess. You are beyond measure because of your exercising control over the entire universe as Isvara. You are all pervading and bestower of welfare over the noble people, you have been called as limitless. О lord you bestow fortunes on people, you are the creator of all the sounls. Your excellent brilliance exceeds that of the sun.

You bestow peace and comfort to all your devotees, while punish the asuras who are inimical to you. Because of the enormous prowess possessed by you, you are called the benovelent Siva. The sages well- versed in dharma call you as the lord or protector of all.

О Isvara, you are extemely valorous. In earlier times, Indra had attacked at your neck, which created a blue spot there. Because of that you are known as Nilakantha. Inspite of your being so powerful, but you bear such crimes out of compassion.

O Mahesvara with Uma, everything in the world is marked with linga and yoni, therefore the entire world represents your form. The Brahmanas well-versed in the tattvas concieve you as virtuous and the adorable, while Ambika the universal mother is called TrigumrUpa.

The same Ambika is Aya (Maya) in the Vedas, she is the producer of the Mahattatva (or knowledge). You are the dravya-yajha of the performers of the yajnas and are the yoga-yajna of the yogis. You are almighty in the worldly sense. О lord, there is none comparable with you in the past present as well as the future.

О god of gods, myself, Brahma, Kapila, Sesa, Sanakas who overpowered the internal enemies, have been born out of you. Therefore you are Isvara for all, cause of all the causes and are most suitable to be adored.”

When Shri Krishna, so offered his prayer to Siva, the bull bannered lord, spoke spreading his right hand said to Shri Krishna.

“O best of gods, you will get your desire fulfilled. You will surely carry Parijata with you. Therefore you should not at all feel painful.

О Shri Krishna, as you had performed tapas, taking shelter with Mainaka, similarly you got a boon from me as well. Keeping that boon in mind you keep patience in your mind.

I had declared earlier that you would be invincible from all and shall be more powerful than myself. These words would prove to be true. No one on earth can do it otherwise.

О auspicious Visnu, one who would adore me offering the prayer just recited by you, he would be victorious in the battle ground and shall achieve dharma and great respect.

О sinless one, since you have established me here, I shall be known here by the name of Bilvodkesvara. Whatever desire is annouced here, would surely be fulfiled.

О Kesava О Janardana, such of the learned people, fasting here, with their minds devoted in me, would attain the desired lokas.

The Ganga shall flow in this region by the name of Avindhya, one who takes bath in the same reciting the mantras for Ganga, would earn the merit of taking a bath in Ganga.

О Janardana, there is a city of Satpur, of the Danavas, under the earth, which is the abode of the valorous Danavas.

О Deva, those Daityas are the thorns for the universe, О Govinda, they hide themselves over the mountain peaks.

O sinless one, with the influence of the boon given to them by Brahma, the demons are invincible from the gods even. Therefore, since you have taken to human form, you should kill these Danavas”.

O Naresvara, after the departure of Mahadeva, when it was dawn after the night was over, then Shri Krishna again said to the mountain.

“О best of mountain, terrific demons reside under you, v ю are invincible from the gods because of the boon they got from Brahma and ^thei gods.

I have stopped then closing their doors. They would not be able to come out. I believe they would be killed by my obstructing them thus.

О great mountain, I shall always reside over you. I shall live here pressing the asuras.

О best of the mountains, the one who would adore my reaching over the mountain he would surely achieve the merit for donating a thousand cows.

Such of the people who would adore the images made from your stone daily with devotion, they would surely achieve Vaikutitha."

Thus Shri Krishna the bestower of boons, showered his grace over the mountain. Thereafter Shri Krishna started dwellin there.

О excellent son of Kuru race, the people with spotless heart, getting desirous of achieving Visnu loka, get the images of Shri Krishna, made in the stone of Pariyatra mountain, adore it always.
