Appearing of the bad omens indicative of the destruction of the Daityas

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, when all the illusions of the Daityas were shattered, then all getting disgusted took refuge with the Demon king Hiranyakasipu.

Then the demon king with his eyes getting red in anger, burning the earth with his rage shook it.

Then all the oceans as well the lakes were disturbed. Even the trees, forests besides the mountains started shaking.

At the Daitya kings were getting enraged, the entire universe was filled with darkness. With the spread of darkness nothing was visible.

Such of the planets which appear at the time of the distinction of the earth, at once appeared in the sky and were moving comfortably.

The moon, without the proper time started uniting with other planets/ constellations. О Naresvara, the entire sky was burnt out with the constellations and planets.

The sun god lost his lustre in the sky. In the space, Kabandha of the black colour appeared in the sky.

The sun god started issuing a black column of smoke. The sun produced excessive heat in the sky.

Seven awful suns resembling the smoke appeared in the sky. The moon lodged in the space, was decorated by the seven planets.

Venus was lodged to the left of the moon. While the Jupiter was lodged to his right. The Saturn and Mars, who was red like the rising sun, were also lodged to his left and right respectively.

The terrific planets moving in the sky, having the shape of the time of dissolution, started climbing together over the golden peak of the Meru mountain, which was inaccessible.

The moon with the constellations, was surrounded by the seven planets did not felicetate Rohini for the welfare of the world.

The moon having been eclipsed by Rahu, got wounded by the comets. The terrific looking burning comets, started advancing towards the moon. Indra — the god of gods, started pouring the rain of blood. The Vidyunmali planets started falling from the sky with huge thunder.

All the trees started blossoming and fruitation mutually. All the creepers were laden with fruits, which were indicative of the destruction of the Daityas.

The fruits started emerging from the fruits and the flowers from the flowers. All the eyes of the images of the gods started blinking, laughing, crying aloud, emitted smoke sometimes or issued flames of fire. Thus they were indications of the time of dissolution.

The domestic animals started uniting with the wild animals of the forest. At the presence of lord Narasimha, all of them cried in panic.

The rivers started flowing in the opposite direction. Their water became muddy. The sun god indicating all of the impending destruction, realised the time of afternoon.

The directions were filled with the dust of red colour and could not be bright. The adorable gods of the temples were never worshipped in any way.

The caitya trees were shattered with the force of the wind, or were shaken. The sun had reached the time of afternoon then and the time like that of the time of dissolution had arrived. At that point of time, with the decline of the luster of the sun, no one could find his shadow on earth.

Above the palace of the Daitya king Hiranyakasipu, in his store house and in the store of weapons the honey bees had made the beehives.

Similarly in the stonehouse of arms, the smoke started rising. Witnessing the enormous disturbances in his kingdom, Hiranyakasipu asked his family priest.

"O adorable one, why are these disturbances appearing in my kingdom? I would like to know the cause of them, truthfully. My mind is quite anxious about them. "

Sukra said — "O great Daitya king, you listen to my words carefully. The huge terrific disturbances are appearing in your kingdom. I am going to speak out the cause for them. You please listen.

О great asura, the country in which these disturbances are witnessed, the king is deprived of the kingship or the king meets with his death.

Therefore, you, think over the matter quite intelligently, to subside all the disturbances. Otherwise enormous danger shall have to be faced by you. There is no doubt about it."

Thus speaking Sukracarya left the place speaking to the Demon king, "Let you meet with your welfare.

After the departure of Sukracarya the Demon king kept himself worried for long. Having been reminded of the words of the Brahmana, repeatedly, he felt painful at heart.

Several disturbances then appeared which were indicative of the destruction of the Daityas and the victory of the gods, but were awful in nature.

Those as well as several other disturbances, resembling the god of death appeared for the destruction of the Daityas.

Hiranyakasipu then taking a club in his hand, shaking the earth repeatedly, rushed with great force.

Daitya — Hiranyakasipu chewing his lips with his teeth, touched the earth with his foot like Adi-Varaha.

When the earth was repeatedly shaken by the great Daitya, the several of the huge serpents, feeling disturbed and panicky, started falling on earth from the mountain tops.

They were vomiting venom as well as fire from their hoods. Some of them had four hoodes some were five hooded, while other had seven hoods.

Even Vasuki, Taksaka, Karkotaka, Dhananjaya, Elapatra, Kaliya, valorous Mahapadma, and Taladhvaja, besides lord Ananta, who was all competent, preserver of the earth, having golden flag was embushed with the tala tree, who could hardly be disturbed or shaken.

The beautiful, tasteful, benevolent water which bore the lustre of the Nagas in Patala, which were difficult to be disturbed were also disturbed by the demon king suddently.

The Daitya king also disturbed the rivers like Bhagirathi, SarayU, Kausiki, (koshi) Yamuna, Kaveri, Krishna, Vena, excellent Suvena, Godavari, Carmouvati, Sindhu, the ocean — the lord of big and small rivers, shonabhadra river, which appeared from the Mekala mountain and having the clean water like the crystal gem, the river Narmada having the beautiful origins, river Vetravati, Gomati river with herds of cows, the river Sarasvati with less of water, Kalanadi, Tamasa with the auspicious water, rivers Sita, Iksumati, Devika, and Mahanadi.

Jambudvipa, which was full of gems, and the country of Svarnakutaka — with gold mines, were also disturbed by the Daitya king.

The Lohitya — a great river decorated with the forests and the moutains, the country of Kausikaranya, the Dravida country with silver mines, Magadha with vast villages, Ahga, Vanga, Suhya, Malla, Videha, Malava, Kashii and Kaushal countries which had been built by Visvakarmd, and looked charming like the peaks of the Kailasa mountain, besides the palace of Garuda, built in gold had also been disturbed and shaken by him.

The ocean known as Lohitya with red water and great force, besides the ocean with bright water, resembling the white clouds were also shaken by him.

О Rajendra, the mountain Udaigiri has the height of a hundred yojanas, ever which the pedestals of gold had been built. The graceful mountain is served by the birds. The trees of Sola, Tala, Tamala and others look golden in colour, blossom there always and are laden with fruits, adding glamour of the Udaigiri moutains, the white roses add to beauty of the mountain, (such a mountain was also shaken by the Daitya king).

The vast Ayomukha mountain, decorated with several metals, besides the Malayagiri mountain having the forest of tamala trees and the fragrance of the sandal trees, were also shaken at that time.

The coutries of Saurastra, Suvahlika, Sura, Abhira, Bhoja, Pandya, Banga, Kalinga, Tamarlipti, Andra, Pundra, VamacUda, and Kerala countries besides the gods and the apsaras of those countries were also shaken, who were grief striken.

The groups of Siddhas and Caranas, residing in the hermitage of the sage Agastya over the moutain Agastya, which had been turned inaccessible by others in the earlier times was quite pleasent. There are wonderful serpents and the birds there. The creepers are laden with flowers always. Its golden peaks were seved by the apsaras. (The same mountain was also shaken by the Daitya king).

The Puspitaka mountain is quite charming and graceful and lovely. It has risen up tearing out of the ocean. The sun and the moon rested over its peaks. Therefore it is known by the name of Priya (lovely) It appears like drawing line in the sky with the rays of the sun and the moon, falling over its peaks. Its base is surrounded by the oceanic waters from all the sides, (The same mountain was also shaken by the Daitya king).

The excellent mountain Vidyutvan, is a hundred yojanas in length. The lightenings often fall over the mountain. Besides that there is a mountain of the shape of a bull, over which the vast hermitage of the sage Agastya is lodged. It is known as a Kunjara mountain, which is the abode of the serpents known as invincible city of Visakharathya besides the city of Bhagapuri. These were also shaken by the Daityas.

О lord of the people, the Mahamedhagiri, the Pariydtra mountain, the excellent Cakravan Giri, Varaha mountain, the golden Pragjyotispur — the abode of the wicked demon Naraka, the Meru mountain, having the thundering sound of the clouds, over which there are eight thousand mountains, all of those were shaken by the Daitya king.

Mahendra — giri, the great mountain which is resplentdent like the rising sun, and is the abode of the gods, which is the auspicious mountain and is spread upto the heaven was also shaken by the Daitya).

Hemasrnga the great mountain, the mountain Meghasakha, which could hardly be shaken, the same Kailasa was also shaken with the striking of the foot by the Daitya king.

Kailasa is the mountain the caves of which always serves as the dwelling places for the Yaksas, Raksasas and Gandharvas.

The Vaikhanasa lake, which is covered with golden lotus flowers, besides the lake Manasarovara, which is the spoting place for the royal geese were also shaken by him.

The Visrnga mountain, the river Kuman, which is the best of the rivers, the Mandrachala mountain, which is like the heap of snow, the mountain known by the name of Usira-bija, Rudrapastha the great mountain, besides the mountain Puskara - the abode of Prajapati Brahma, were also shaken by the Daitya king.

The mountains Devdvrt, Balukagiri, Kraunca hill, the mountain of seven Rishis, the Dhdmravarna mountain, besides several other mountains, countries, Janapadas, rivers, and oceans were disturbed and shaken by the Daitya king.

Not only that, the demons of the nether world, who could fly in the sky, Kapila, the son of earth, Vyaghraksa Ksitikampana, and other terrific demons like Meganada, Ahkusayudha, creatures of upper and the lower regions besides the Bhimavega, were all shaken.
