Marching of Anuhrada, Virocana, Kujambha and others towards the battle ground





Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, Anuhrada also, who was the son Hiranyakasipu and was the terribly invincible Daitya, arrived there with the desire of waging the war with the gods.

The chariot with which he travelled was four wheeled. It was twelve hands in height. The horses resembling the lion's mouths were yoked in his chariot.

The wheels of the chariot produced the deep and terrific rumbling sound. The valorous Anuhrada moved in that chariot shaking the earth with forests, mountains etc.

Several groups of beautiful Daityas, followed Anuhrada, while thundering at the same time. A crore of charioteers adorned with gold garlands, followed Anuhrada.

They were holding parighas, Bhindipalas, spears, nooses, battle axes and other weapons. They carried the tridents and mudgaras in their hands.

The great asuras had been decorated with vajras and golden nets studded with gems. The wonderful chariots and kavacas added to their grace.

The Daitya king Anuhrada, whose all the limbs were decorated with gold, appeared like the vast and high mountain. He was riding over the excellent chariot suitable to his position, and looked quite beautiful.

Virocana was also resplendent like the fire flames, getting ready for the war, arrived there, accompanied by the vast army of charioteers. His heart was spotless chean and well versed in use of all the arms.

He was well aware of the use of army formations in a particular situation. He was well aware of the tattvas of the entire knowledge. Virocana was the father of Bali. As Indra is the best of all the gods, similarly Virocana was the best of all the Daityas.

His chariot was decorated with various small bells besides the strings of beads, all types of weapons had been stored in the chariot. A thousand best of steeds had been yoked in the chariot.

Mounting over the chariot, Virocana, the lord of Daityas, looked like the second Meru mountain. On the ends of the same, small bells had been arranged. It had a banner, which was embossed with the effigy of an elephant. Its banner resembled the clouds of the evening time.

The great chief of asuras, was decorated with the small figures made in gold and coral. The strings of beads were also hanging over it, mounting over such a chariot adorning his head with the kirlta crown, he marched on for waging the war.

Kujambha the younger brother of Virocana, was surrounded by thousands of chariots which were decorated with gold and gems. The Daityas proud of their strength, being inimical to the gods, stood there surrounding him, holding prasas, nooses, besides club etc. All of the Daityas were anxious for the war. Kumbha, who also accompanied them was competent enough to subjugate the enemies.

He was huge like a mountain, and had the black complexion like the coal collected from the coal mine. His head was adorned with a huge crown. Having been decorated with the crown and the kavaca, Kujambha appeared like the moon issuing the bright rays from the chariot.

The great Daitya, seated in his chariot, having the flag embossed with effigy of a tala tree, appeared like the sun issuing the rays from the top of the Meru mountain.

As Indra, the destroyed of Vrtrasura, moved having been surrounded by the gods, similarly, the intelligent Kajambha, who was quite competent, well versed in the waging of war, was advancing surrounded by the Daitya for waging war with the gods.

The Danava named Asiloma was also present there, who carried the huge mountain peaks as his weapon. This Danava was of harsh temperament harsh body and he arrived in the battle ground. His face was merciless.

The immensely valorous Daitya with a gigentic body, looked quite awful. His eyes resembled the wheels of the chariot. He was clad in black garments. He had protruding and long fangs. His face was red. He had a crown over his head.

He used the stone rocks and the trees for waging the war, could take to many forms, was proud of his strength, besides being the enemy of the gods. He was surrounded by thousands of Daityas.

The Daityas carrying a trident in their hand, wandered in the space like the clouds. Their necks were adorned with golden medals, which issued lustre. Therefore they looked like the black clouds of the rainy season.

The son of Danayusa, was known by the name of Vrtra, was a great asura who was also present there for the waging of the war. The said Daitya of a gigantic body was inimical to gods and his face was red like the copper. His belly was pressed inside.

His tongue was shining like the fire. His beard and the moustaches were of blue colour. The hairs on of the body was erect and the chin was fleshy. His body was of blue complexion, the face was red. He was clad in red garments, and the head had a kirita crown over it. His arms were long, deformed body, while fangs, was awful to look at. These are the details of his figure. He possessed great illusions, had a gigantic body and was adorned with the armlets of gold.

He had the weapons which were studded with gems, was terrific in out look, wore a gold chain around his neck. His flag was embossed with the mark of a wheel.

His chariot was decorated with many small bells, which issued sweet sound. The chariot was decorated with gold while the flags and banners were of red colour. It was driven by a thousand steed.

Vrtra, who enhanced the delight of the Daityas, mounted over a divine chariot, getting anxious for waging the war marched on with the army of chariots.

His eyes were of red colour like the molten gold. He was the leader of the army of the demons. His eyes were pleasent like the blossoming flowers, the teeth were white and shining bright. Seated over the chariot seat, the Daitya looked quite graceful.

There was another Daitya named Ekacakra, who rose up like the solar disc. He was awful like kala-cakra and was anxious to wage the war like Hari- the holder of the disc.

Mounted over the complitely divine chariot of iron, he was surrounded by the groups of Daityas who were arrogant for their strength and carried the weapons made of the black iron and the pieces of rocks.

His army included eighty thousand warriors who fought wonderfully. All of them resembled the god of death or Kola possessing enormous prowess. Their eyes were red, were adorned with kavacas of gold and iron, and were quite beautiful to look at.

The Daityas were lodged in the sky and looked like the blue clouds. All of them were black in colour and were dangerous like the god of death, besides being horrible and invincible.

They were as deep as the belly of the ocean and held the blue discs in their hands. It was difficult to overpower them. The excellent asuras crossing the boundary of their own land advanced further, thundering like the ocean.

Their illusions were awful and the bodies were well built. The wore the shining kirlta crowns over their heads. All their limbs were adorned with the gold ornaments. They held the resplendent weapons in their hands. Those demons were at that point of time flying in the sky like the winged moutains.

The Banasura — the son of Bali, sent a message to the brother of Vrtrasura that he should wear the kavaca for the destruction of the army of gods. On receiving the message, the valorous Daitya, decorated himself with garlands of flowers and gold, besides gold ear ornaments, and advanced for waging the war. He had long and terrific fangs. He was clad in red costumes and wore garland of red flowers. Besides his being an extremely angry Daitya, he was invincible in the battle field. (Possibly his name was Viksura).

He had vast and round eyes. He wore a crown over his head and held a bow in his hand. He looked like an intoxicated elephant issuing fluid from his temples. He was as strong as a lion.

He was quite tall like a palm tree. He was a great Daitya and was stretching the cord of the bow repeatedly. The sound so produced by the stretching of the bow's cord; resembled the sound of the striking of Vajra.

His chariot was driven by the donkeys. His flag was embossed with the effigy of a serpent, which was fluttering. The Daitya seated over the chariot appeared like the sun of the evening time or the setting sun.

With his presence in the battle field, the Daitya was adorned with gold costume, and carrying the trident and mudgara in his hands, he marched on with a thousand chariots; which appeared like the clouds filled with water.

The chariot moved with the speed of wind. His chest was quite vast. He was of fair complexion resembling the pericarp of the blossoming lotus flower. Mounted over an excellent chariot, he atonce marched forward for the waging of the war. The gods had witnessed his prowess several times earlier.

Rahu — the son of Simhika, was also a great asura, who had arrived for waging the war. His appearance was awful and his body resembled the mountain. He had hundreds of heads and bellies.

He wore garland of yellow colour, besides the ornaments of Jambunada gold. He had the dark complexion lapiz-Lazuli gem and his eyes were as beautiful as the lotus flowers.

His chariot was completely covered with gold plates and was decorated with the strings of gems. The chariot was decorated with hundreds of flags, and was driven by excellent steed.

The immensely valorous Daitya, mounted over the divine chariot and shaking the earth, started thundering aloud.

Mayasura had built a beautiful flage for it, which was made of gold. He had also made an iron kavaca decorated with wings.

The terrific and forceful Danavas also appeared seated over the divine chariots, which were filled with various types of weapons.

Rahu — the lord of the asuras was walking like the intoxicated king of elephants of all the asuras his speed was the fastest. The valorous warriors kept on advancing towards the enemy, as the illutrious, sun, moves towards the Astacala (mountain of setting).

Vipracitti who enhances the race of the Danavas, also arrived there. The illustrious Danavas, was the son of Kasyapa but was illustrious like Brahma.

He performed thousands of yajhas, was well versed in Vedas besides being an ascetic. Brahma had bestowed a boon on him as a result which he became competent even to bestow a boon on Brahma himself. The immensely illustrious Vipracitti, had achieved siddhis like Isatva, Mahatva and Vasitva.

He possessed the fortunes equivalent to those of Brahma, besides being valorous. The valorous Danava together with his sons and grand sons, got ready for waging the war wearing the kavaca.

All of them possessed Maya, besides being valorous, were well-versed, in waging of war, besides being invincible. They were shining like the lotus flowers. They were tall like the peak of the-HemakUta mountain.

All of them appeared illustreous like the silver and appeared like the peak of the Kailasa. mountain. The Danava — Maya had created for them an illusory chariot.

The flags embossed with the figure of swans were fluttering over the chariot and besides of the high flag poles, the height of the chariots had increased. The flags looked graceful in the sky like the clouds of the winter season, flying in the sky.

The Daityas were clad in white costumes and their bodies were adorned with garlands of white flowers. All of them had white umbrellas and their ears were adorned with white ear-rings.

Their chests were decorated with the garland of bead and they looked like the lords of the heaven. Their shapes were quite illustirous like the planets. They immensely frightened the enemy. Many of the Danavas were clad with wonderful and red clothes. They were wearing enormous ornaments.

The valorous Vipracitti, mouted over the chariot named Trailokya-vijaya, arrived in the battle ground. The size of the chariot resembled the Kailasa mountain. The length of its interior part was thirty two hands.

A thousand white steed had been yoked to his chariot. It was decorated with hundereds of white flags and various types of weapons had been kept suitably arranged in the chariot.

The white umbrella resembling the white lotus flowers or the moon, appeared like the moon rising over the Svetacala mountain.

Kesi the foremost of the Danavas, was quite a crooked one. His eyes appeared red resembling the copper. He appeared like the black clouds. He was the god of death in the form of a demon.

He resembled a huge planet. He could terrorise the enemy. He was clad in wonderful costumes and adorned with a rosary of beads. The colour of the ornaments worn by him was red.

He had a hundred eyes and a hundred arms and (fifty heads). The colour of his beard and moustaches was black or blue. His ears resembled those of the pigs. His body was awful to look at. This was his body's structure. The valorous Danavas thundred aloud.

His excellent chariot resembled the cloud, in which crores of small bells had been fixed, which created pleasing sound. The divine he — buffaloves had been yoked in the chariot. Kesi arrived there mounted over the chariot.

The chariot hand the lustre of blue saffron and had a flag embassed with the mark of a camel, which looked quite wonderful.

The asura who had been advancing towards the gods, the same Asura Kesi was followed by fifty thousands chariot.

While marching on, the Danava, was black like the coal extreated from the coal mine. Because of the huge white fangs he appeared like the crescent moon. His faces looked like the line of skylarks flying in the sky.

The kirita crown of asura Kesi, looked wonderful with the combination of gold and lapiz-lazuli gem. The forehead of the demon appeared like the mountain peak emerging from the forest fire.

The illustrious asura — the killer of the gods, known as Vrsaparva rode over his chariot as the sun mounts over the Meru mountain.

The yoke fixing parts of the chariot was inlaid with gold and carol, looked wonderfully graceful. The precious chariot could carry heavy weight.The comers of its wheels had the finish of silver. The chariot had been beautifully decorated. It was resplendent like the sun-rays, constellations, and the lightning.

Vrsaparva had adorned his arms with keyuras and angadas. He had the shield decorated with a thousand stars, and was adorned with various types of ornaments, which were useful in the war and was shining like the sun of noon time.

He possessed enormous strength. He wore gloves in both his hands. He was intoxicated with his prowess. His eyes were red like the flowers of the Plasa tree. He carried an astonishing type of the bow which was covered with gold leaf and appeared quite pleasent. He had vast and round eyes.

At that point of time, Bali — the king of the asuras was surrounded by a large number of demons, mounted his chariot, in which the lapiz lazuli gems had been studded in gold. It was shining like the lightning. The length of the chariot was sixty four hands.

There a thousand Daityas having deformed faces of elephants and others who were lodged in the chariot. The chests of all of them were decorated with gold. They all thundered like the clouds of the rainy season.

The great, chariot illuminited like the chariots of gods. Mayasura who was well versed in several illusions, had built that chariot. The painting of hunting deer and of several sports had been drawn therein, which added to the divine glory of the same. The chariot was followed by several other chariots.

Small bells were filled in it. The spotless and the vast chariot was decorated with hundreds of golden lotuses. Mounted over the same, Bali wore the VaijayantI garland in which the astonishing types of golden flowers were kneaded.

At that point of time the king Bali, possessed the divine garland with excessive resplendence. He possessed enormous Smrddhis. With his vast arms, he appeared graceful as the sun shines with his luster in the sky.

At that point of time the goddess Durga garlanded Bali as a token of defect of the asuras? Wearing the said garland, Bali the son of Virocana looked like the full moon of the winter seasons.

Other wise he looked like the Meru mountain which lighted like the fire, joining with the sun with the clouds of the Meru mountains covered with the clouds. The king Bali lookecj graceful like the same. In the chariot of king Bali, the weapons like the prasas, the golden nooses, Kavacas, swords, battle axes, vajra, the shining bows, the divine chariots, Saktis with tips of vajras, the divine swords, the flamming arrows, and several types of quivers filled with arrows, which dazzled like the burning comets, were kept in store.

The Daityas with beautiful fangs, standing over the pedestals of the chariot, holding the fly whisks in their hands, were fanning the king Bali.

The excellent Danavas known as Ayahsira, Asvasura, Durapa, Sibi, Matanga, Visira, Sataksa, Ayas, Nikumbha, and Kathama were attending to security of the demon king Bali.

Then thousands of dennons served as foot soldiers of Bali who marched ahead of him quite forcefully holding the guns, discs, Asani, and Saktis in their hands, with the speed of the wind.

At the departure of the chariot of Bali, the beautiful gold bells started sounding. The trumpets or buggies, gargaras, big drums besides the great kettle drums were sounded. The loud sound was produced by these musical instruments.

The huge golden flag which was quite vast, had been raised up, the divine emblem of which had been raised up was quite big. It was fixed over a golden pedestal. The vast banner resembled the sun with sun rays.

A huge chakra was hanging over the head of the king Bali and a beautiful gold garland was adorning his chest. Several Daitya warriors were roaming around him. The Daitya, JRsis, shouted the slogans of his victory with folded hands.

The family priest of the king Bali and the other Brahmanas well versed in the Vedas, with the idea of the destruction of the enemy of the Daitya king Bali, were reciting mantra with concentrated mind, besides reciting the Vedas. They also recited the welfare mantras using several osadhis.

The king Bali, controlling his mind donated in charity the costumes, beautiful cows, flowers and fruits, medals in large quantity and appeared graceful like Kubera - the lord of riches.

There were a thousand paintings of the sun in the chariot of the king Bali. Many small bells were hanging in it. The sheets of costly Jambanda gold were provided in the chariot, which added to its grace. The chariot of Bali had paintings of a thousands moons and ten thousands stars. The chariot of Bali was shining like the fire flames.

A Danava was driving the chariot. The king having been mounted over the chariot, holding the bow and an arrow in his hands took to a horrible form. It appeared as if he would certainly destroy the army of Indra.

The vast ocean of the Daitya army, was moving towards the army of gods, in the same way as the force and high waves of water at the time of dissolution, the great ocean advances to deluge of the entire world.

О king, ahead of the chariot of the king Bali, the strong Daitya warriors holding the bows in their hands, frighting the three lokas, having the gigantic bodies appeared like the mountain with forests.
