Ghantakarna eulogisis lord Visnu

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, thereafter the Pisaca had an audience with lord Visnu (Krishna), the lord of universe. The form of Sn Hari, as was visualised by him during his samadhi, he found Shri Krishna in the same form on earth.

Visvalising him, the flesh eater Pisaca spoke, "He is Visnu, he is Visnu. Because the form in which I had seen him in samadhi, I find him here in the same form". Thus speaking, the Pisaca while laughing and dancing spoke.

He is the same holder of cakra, the Saranga bow, arrows, besides holding a gada, mounted over the chariot. He had a thousand heads and carried the quivers. He is lord of all the gods, besides being the creator of the universe and Shri Hari, the abode of the three worlds.

He is the one who has been known as Visnu, Jisnu, Jagannatha, Purana-Puruna, Purusottama, Visvatma, and Visvakarta. He is the eternal Supreme soul.

The chest of the same Narayana is decorated with the Kaustubha gem. By his grace alone, the moon shines in the sky with its rays.

He is the one who appeared in the form of Vardha, who rescued the earth carrying it over the tip of his tusk from the oceanic water and established her over the surface of the water. He is the same lord Hari.

He forcibly bound Bali with terrific prowess, and taking to the form of a dwarf, he bestowed Indra, the kingship of three worlds. At that point of time the Rishis adored him with devotion.

The same Janardana taking to the form of Narasimha, with large fangs had killed Danava in the battle and relieved the entire world of her grief.

He is the one who in earlier times, carried Mandaracala in one hand, and defeating all the asuras over the sea shore, gave the nactar to Indra. The same lord Mahavisnu has appeared before me.

The one, who at the time of dissolution killed Madhu and Kaitabha — two terrific demons, in oceanic waters, slept over the comfortable bed of the serpent Sesa with Laksmi.

The one who is called the lord of all the gods, the eternal one, Jagadisvara, the one who maintains all, devoid of birth, creator of the universe, smaller than the smallest the greatest and gross. He is called Hari and Visnu.

He is the one in whom the universe is absorbed at the time of destruction and from whom the lokas emerge at the time of creation. The same lord Visnu is present here.

Janardana by whose desire, the world is engaged in various activities, and is also engaged at present, the same Purusottama Visnu, appears in the form of Krishna who has arrived before me.

He having been born in the race of Bhrgu, was popular by the name of Jamadagnya and achieved the place of Mrgavyadha, with lord Siva. Parasurama, the disciple of lord Mahadeva, had cut off the thousand arms of Sahasrarjuna the son of Krtavlrya in the battle, with he battle axe. This Sahasrarjuna had attacked with the army of elephants, horses, and chariots, but was killed with force. Then arriving in Kuruksetra, he performed the Sraddha of^ the manes. He removed the Ksatriyas from the earth on twenty one times. (He is the same lord Visnu).

There Janardana was born in the race of Raghu as Rama. He was married to SIta who was the form of Laksmi. Laksmana his younger brother, always followed him. He was a noble soul besides being a learned one. Then Janardana in the form of Rama, built bridge over the ocean, with the use of his fast moving arrows, killed Ravana — the king of Raksasas. He gave away the kingship of Lanka to Vibhisana, performed ten Asvamedha sacrifices. (The same Rama in the form of Visnu has appeared here).

Then lord Hari was born in the race of Vasudeva and came to be known as Vasudeva. He performed several sports in Gokula. At that point of time Balarama, his elder brother, was his helper.

While he was sleeping as an infant over the cot, at that very moments, he sucked the breast of PUtana — the demoness, and killed her at the same time. Thereafer, Shri Hari, lived there with comfort.

When he was grown up a little, then stealthily drinking milk used to consume the butter and the curd. Then once, the angry Yasoda tightly tied a rope around the waist of Visnu.

With that light bondage around his waist, Damodara, broke a twin Arjuna trees. While living in Gokula, Shri Hari as a child, while sporting with the milkmaids, sometimes he sucked their breasts and sometime kissed their faces.

While living with cowherds of Gokula in Vrndavana, Shri Hari, killed a demon named KesI, who appeared in the form of a horse, earned the glory like the sun.

Jagadisvara Janardana, having been served by the cowherd boys, sported oyer the serpent hoods. Then displaying his enormous strength, trampled over the huge serpent living in the lake of the Yamuna. (The same lord Krishna his appeared here).

The one, who in the forest of palm trees, destroyed the terrific demon Dhenukasura and by killing him, he surprised all the cowherds. (The same Visnu has appeared here).

The extremely wise lord Hari, at the time of the overcast of the samvartaka clouds, displaying his terrible prowess, lifted up Govardhana mountain, over his hand, and putting the strength of Indra to shame, made the cowherds, the milkmaids and the entire Gokula, blissful, (he is the same Krishna here).

The lord, who takes to human form with his illusion, Paramesvara — Hari sucked the nectar from the breasts, and lips of the milkmaids sported as per his liking. (He is the same person).

Kesava, who during the night, in the lonely region of Vrndavana, enjoyed the nectar like taste of the faces of the milkmaids, slept there with comfort, and like a passionate person, tasted the nectar of the lips of his beloveds, he slept over the breasts of the milkmaids. (He happens to be the same lord.

At the call of Kamsa, while travelling with Akriira, lord Hari, who appeared in the water, in Nagaloka, and was adored there, the same incident was witnessed by Akrura himself. The same Shri Krishna is present here.

Then on travelling over the road to Mathura, lord Janardana, the all powerful one, together with Balarama, forcibly snatched the clothes from the hands of the arrogant washerman and wearing them entered the city of Mathura.

Moving forward they received many flower garlands. Then the lord of Yadus bestowed enormous boon on the garderner. Then receiving the fragrant paste from the hunchback Kubja, he atonce turned her into a beautiful damsel.

He, then carrying the huge bow of Kamsa in his hands, broke it from the middle and then utter the lion's roar resembling the thundering of the clouds of the time of dissolution. (He is the same lord).

Then he killed the gigantic and terrific elephant Kuvalyapldha. He then pulled up a tusk of the elephant, the valorous Kesava, frightening Kamsa, entered the sports stadium, and started dancing there.

He is the one who killed the great wrestler Caniira, in the very presence of Kamsa, delighted the Yadavas. (The same Shri Hari is here).

Thereafter, Shri Hari, killed Kamsa, who was inmical to his father and killer of Yadavas and Ugrasena was established as the king in his place. Subsequently he went to the sage Sandlpani, for the prosecuting of his studies. Sandlpani was born at Kasl (but was living in the city of Avanti).

Learning all the knowledge from the sage, Shri Krishna, restord his dead son to him. Then together with his elder brother, Balarama, soon returned to Mathura - the capital of Yadavas.

The immensely intelligent Jandrdana - the lord of universe, then killed Nisumbha and Narakasura — the two Daityas, killing many of the Raksasas, protected the Brahmanas, the sages, the valorous warriors, all the gods as well as the world.

The same lord Jandrdana has appeared before me today. With an audience with him, I have become successful. I have thus achieved the intimate union with the lord.

The one who has witnessed lord Hari, the salvation becomes handy with him. Lord Hari is present here in person.

Surely, I must have collected some merits in my earlier births, as a result of which I have been able to meet him.

I am surely an auspicious soul, I have been freed from the worldly bondage. What shall I offer to him as a present? What should I speak to him? О Visnu, what can I do for you? You express your desire to me.

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, Thus speaking, the Pisaca, started thundering aloud again and again. Then he uttered a loud laugh and started dancing.

О Naresvara, in presence of Shri Krishna there, he said, "O Yadavesvara, Kesava, Krishna, Hari, salutation to you repeatedly". Thus speaking, he started dancing variously.

Here ends chapter — 82, of Bhavisya Parva, of the Harivarhsa Purana, a supplement of the epic of Mahabharata relating to Ghantakama's enlogy for Shri Krishna. (Vrs. 1-43, P.T. = U,367)
