Conveying of the message of Shri Krishna, by Satyaki to Hamsa and Dimbaka

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, at these words of Hamsa, the saintly and valorous Janardana, who always adored Shri Krishna as Narayana spoke smilingly.

'Yes, I met lord Janardana. I have met him. He is the one who holds a conch, in one hand, and a cakra in other. Whose armlet is adorned with the molten Jambunada gold and who is adorned with the resplendent Kaustuba gem.

I have met Shri Krishna, who is always served by the ancient ascetics of repute, besides the chief Yadavas and many other rulers, who praise him always. He is the one whose lips shine like the red coral and the fresh flower petal.

The ancient Rishis and the ascetics, together with the gods, contemplating on his true form, declare him to be the one who is achieveable. Who has the blue complexion, resembling the blue lotus flower, whose belly is decorated with the blue lotus flower, the same lord Padmanabha — Shri Krishna has been seen by me.

I had a glance at the unborn preceptor of the world again and again, who caused delight to the Yadavas with his speech and bestowed delight to the Yadavas, while with the ancient Rishis, he was discussing the secrets of Pravrtti — marga of the Vedas in an appropriate manner.

He is the only well-versed of all the worlds known as Hari — the form of universe, defeats the enemy, for the benefit of the world and dwells in on earth.

He is the foremost of the race of Yadava, adorable Isvara, known as Shri Krishna had been glanced by me again and again, who indulges in various types of sports with the Yadavas during the time of leisure. He himself is engaged in sports and inspires the Yadavas also to do so.

I again glanced at the lotus eyed Shri Hari, who lives in Dvaraka with Rukmini — the daughter of Bhishma, who sleeps in the oceanic waters in the form of Narayana, who possesses enormous. fortunes, is beloved of the devotees, the only refuge of the devotees, besides being the form of benevolence.

Feeling extremely delighted, he had a look at Shri Krishna again and again and enjoyed the beauty of his limbs with staring eyes. At that point of time, I only thought that I am indeed graceful.

I found that the all competent, all pervading, the form of bhiitas and the sustainer of all, held two lotus flowers in his hands. I am still feeling blissful, by having a look at, the glorious, illustrious, Adi-Purusa, and the great lord.

The one over whose chest the Kaustubha gem keeps on shinning, on whom, hundreds of fly whishes were being moved, I met with the same Jagadisvara — Shri Krishna.

Не, the Yadavesvara Visnu with an envious heart, remembered you and he desired to know about yourself and to whom were you known?

He has said, "When shall I meet with both the fools? By what means would they meet me". Holding a couch in his hand, he was thinking such things.

He started laughing at your having declared as the tax-payers. I had also viewed him in the same condition. He had been talking to Narada — the divine priest as well as Yatisvara Durvasa.

He advised Durvasa — the great sage, on the issue of BrahmasUtra's passages, relating to Vedanta for teaching them to his disciples. At that point of time, having a look at Shri Hari, thought in my mind again and again.

"My friends have started an impossible task. О king, О lord, you should not take up this task.

When the matter of your extracting the taxes from Shri Krishna was ended, then Shri Krishna had thought of imprisoning you. The relevant details will be spoken to you by Satyaki". On hearing the words of Janardana, Hamsa getting enraged said.

Hamsa said — О son of Brahmana, what type of words have you uttered. Did you have this much to speak before the great warriors, who are desirous of conquering the three worlds.

Shri Krishna — the lord of illusion, has overpowered you with his illusion, your meeting with him has created a great confusion.

The one who is adorned with Sarhkha, cakra, gada and Sarahga bow, besides the long garland of forest flowers, and his glory has been spread everywhere. The strength of his arms is known only by the praises for him sung by the birds. The one who is the heap of wonderful glory, and illuminates the world with his strength, the one who has four arms, who is surrounded by the armies, who is the respectable person of the Vrsni and Yadava races, by meeting with such a valorous warrior of the race of Vrsni, you have been confused. Oh, by meeting with the carrier of cakra, you have been overpowered with fallacy today.

О foolish Brahmana, even now the evil minded Krishna has confused you, who is a magician. His magic has overpowered you.

О Brahmana, in your speech, you have displayed your confused and fickle minded- ness, Oh, you should have highlighted my glory (but instead you have displayed my smallness).

О Brahmana, О excellent Dvija, I alone, have tolerated your improper behaviour because of my friendship with you. Otherwise, who could tolerate such things.

O foolish Brahmana, you can go anywhere you like. The entire world is presently available for you. О Brahmana you can go anywhere on earth.

I shall conquer the son of a cowherd and after killing many Yadavas, shall perform a great yajna. Our first resolve is to conquer the Yadavas.

О Brahmana, you leave this place. You are stubborn and foul tongued. Even after living with me, you always praised my enemies. (Therefore I disown you).

Even after suffering from all the sides, I should not resort to the killing of a Brahmana". (Therefore, I leave you alive.) Thus speaking to the Brahmana, Hamsa spoke to Satyaki.

О Yadava prince, what for have you arrived here? What is the message given to you by the son of Nanda? О otherwise, what type of tax has been paid by him to me?

Satyaki said — You listen to the true words of Shri Krishna the holder of Sarhkha, cakra and gada. He says that, "I shall remit your entire tax with the arrows sharpened at the rocks shot from the Sarahga bow. I shall severe your head with sharp edged sword, О Hamsa.

О foolish soul, degraded king, what more your audicity could be than this? О degraded person, a ruler who desires to collect tax from Jagannatha, the god of gods, his tongue should be cut off. This is the means for paying tax to him.

The sound of the strenging of the Sarahga bow of Shri Hari, when heard by anyone, who could aspire to remain alive? Let you stand before me.

Feeling proud of the boon received from lord Siva, who can talk thus to Shri Krishna, as has been spoken by you? All the Yadava warriors including Balabhadra are the helpers of Shri Krishna.

Balabhadra is the first, I am Satyaki — the second, Krtavarma is the third, while valorous Nisatha is the fourth. Fifth is Babhru, sixth is Utkala, seventh is Parana who is well versed in the handling of the weapons, Saranga is the eighth, while Viprtha is the ninth. The intelligent Uddhava is the tenth. All of us possessing enormous prowess are the associates of Shri Krishna.

All those warriors take their positions ahead of Shri Krishna in all the wars.

His two famous sons (Pradyumn and Samba) resemble Asvinikumaras in strength. Both of them, getting intoxicated, can kill both of you in the war.

Siva is the lord of speech also known as Girisa, stands aside granting the boon. On whose strength both of you want to enter into conflict with us? On whose strength you intend to fight with us?"

The one, whose warriors like us are fighting with the enemy, then who can return alive being desirous of collecting the tax from the lord of the three worlds?

With the arrows shot by the Saranga bow of Shri Krishna, who guards the entire world, you are sure to be killed by the short arrows shot by him.

Lord Jagadisvara has further equired as to where the war is to be fought? Should it be over the auspicious place of Puskara, mountain Govardhana or at Mathura? You can reach at anyone of the place to display your prowess.

Shri Krishna, the holder of Samkha and cakra, when engaged in the preservation of the world, then who can start the Rajasuya yajna without his permission? Or otherwise, except you, who else is there to speak iii this way and return to his place with comfort?

O foolish one, in case you so desire, then you would become a laughing stock on earth". Thus speaking, Satyaki, stood over the ground.

Here ends chapter — 118, of Bhavisya Parva of the Harivamsa Parana, a supplement of the epic of Mahdbhdrata, relating to the conveying of the message of Shri Krishna by Satyaki to Hamsa and Dimbaka. (Vrs. 1-48, P. T. = 14,381)
