Janardana's anxiety to meet Shri Krishna

Vaishampayana said — О Rajendra, о Naresvara, then Brahmana named Janardana, who was the best among those well-versed in Brahman, mounted over a horse, and at once moved towards the abode of Hari.

As in the summer season, a traveller, suffering from the heat of the sun rays, spotting the water at a long distance,- quickly moves to that place for the drinking of water, similarly the Brahmana Janardana, in order to have an audience with Shri Krishna proceeded to his place running. Driving his excellent horse, he mentally thought.

"In fact Hamsa is a real friend of mine. It is only he, who can be my well wisher. Because it is he who has sent me to Dvaraka, where I shall have the fortunes of meeting Lord Hari.

I am always graceful. There is none else more fortunate them me, because, I, shall meet lord Visnu, dwelling in Dvaraka.

Graceful is my mother, who is the strong willed goddess, who would see the face of her son who had meet Shri Krishna and had returned with success.

I shall see the face of Sr! Krishna — the god of gods, which is glamorous like the golden lotus flower.

I shall see the body of the blue complexioned Shri Krishna, the god of gods, who is adorned with Samkha, cakra, gada and Saranga bow, besides the long garland of flowers of the forest.

I shall see both the lotus eyed eyes, which have the resplendence of the blossomed lotus petals. At that point the entire misery of my heart would be washed out. The sufferings would be removed. I shall then get absorbed in the blissful lord.

Shall the lord Krishna the soul of the yoga, cast his compassionate glance over me or speak to me with sweet words? Shall he say, "Let you meet with welfare".

Reaching there, I shall see the body of Shri Krishna, in which all the three worlds are lodged, being the abode of the three worlds. My mind is getting anxious to have a glance at the lotus like feet of Visnu — the holder of cakra in his hands.

Looking at the chest of lord Visnu, which always is resplendent with the Kaustubha gem. I am proceeding on with my mind devoted to the lord.

The one who wears the silken Pitambara is adorned with the long garland of forest flowers, falling (upto the feet), who has the flash of smile over his lips. I shall get a chance of looking at such a lord Krishna again and again.

Having been reminded of that form of Hari, I find a thrill in my body while travelling I find the image of Shri Krishna holding Samkha, cakra, gada and the lotus standing before me.

Shri Krishna, the preceptor of the world, appears to be walking ahead of me. My tongue is quite anxious to speak out, "Here is my lord".

I am going to him to demand for tax, but these words are quite painful and I feel that words of the king Haihsa are a misadvantures.

I shall have to speak before Shri Krishna, that he should pay tax to the king Hamsa, obey his command and also to serve him. All these words shall have to be spoken by me to Shri Krishna. Surely I am a heartless person.

О Hari, О Visnu, you pay taxes to Hamsa. By so speaking I shall become the foremost of the fools, and a shameless person.

(I shall also have to say that) "You will have to give a large quantity of salt to Hamsa. To speak such words before Shri Krishna, the holder of Sarang bow, would in no way be proper for me.

Still, I shall have to speak out these words out of friendship. The friendship is at times painful for the people having the noble soul.

Or even otherwise lord Visnu is omniscient, he is aware of the feelings of all the people at all the times. He is engaged in the welfare of the people.

There is no fault of mine under these circumstances, because it is the friendship which is compelling me to do so. The harsh words which I am going to speak, let lord Visnu always protect me for the same.

The one who is the lord of the entire world besides being its protector, whose head is adorned with black curly hair, who has the neck like the conch, whose chest is adorned with the Shrivatsa mark, I shall have an audience with such a lord Visnu.

The one whose arms are adorned with the ornaments studded with rubies, who is adorned with Kaustabha gem, I shall meet with such holder of cakra, all pervading, Krishna the lord of Yadavas.

The one, whose fortunes are beyond comprehension, the one who is the lord of past, present and future, who is engaged as the protector of the world of his own accord, I shall have a look at Shri Narayana, who sleeps in the waters of the oceans.

After having a glance at him, I shall surely be successful. All my worries and the sufferings would be removed on meeting Shri Hari, today, my birth would meet with success.

On beocoming face to face with Shri Hari, all theyajhas performed by me would meet with success. By meeting with the all pervading lord Visnu, both my eyes would also be successful.

I am going to request him for a terrific deed. Let lord Visnu be pleased with me at that time. Shall I be able to have a glance at Jagadisvara?

I shall glance lord Visnu from top to bottom again and again. Both my eyes shall absorb the beauty of the face of Shri Krishna.

Thereafter, I shall apply the dust of the feet of Shri Krishna over my head and by so doing, I shall be successful, because the dust of his feet is the ladder for heaven.

I shall also listen to the voice of lord Hari, which resembles the thunder of the clouds and also look at the lotus, like the feet of the lord.

The face of Shri Krishna is beautiful like the full moon. I shall have a look at it. The entire world is the form of Shri Hari. I find him everywhere in the same form. Lord Visnu shall always be happy with me, inspite of my speaking improper words.

The one is whose ears wear the glittering gold rings are hanging, whose body is plastered with the white sandal paste, who se arms are adorned with the glittering armlets, studded with gems. They appear more resplendent, who holds the great conch. Pancajanya in his left hand which shines with its rays. He remains shining like the rays of the rising sun, whose Sudarsana- cakra issued the rays, whose hands are adorned with the shining wristlets, while the armlets look like the molten gold. He is the one who is clad in the silken pitdmbara. He has a wide chest, I shall meet the same Devesvara, who is called Acyuta as well, just now or at some other time.

I am completely successful, because, I am getting ready to meet Shri Hari in person, I am bent upon meeting Shri Hari, therefore salutation to me, salutation to me.

Balabhadra, the form of the serpent Sesa, shall be seen by me today. The victorious, omnipresent, preceptor of the universe, Shri Krishna, will surely meet me.

The one who is resplendent with the lustre of the Kaustubha gem, whose chest is adorned with the Kaustubha gem, besides the the Srlvatsa mark, who is clad in pitambara, who is wearing the makara — kundlas, has the eyes like the lotus flowers, whose head is adorned with the kirita crown, who holds cakra and a gada in his hands, whose body is dark complexioned let him bestow benovelorice on me.

I am going to consume the nectar in the form of Narayana, with my eyes, who is associated with the serpent Vasuki, who appeared from the Mandarcala mountain of pure wisdom, in the ocean of the Vedas, who is always served by the gods.

The one who is meditated upon by those desirous of liberation from rebirth, limitless, without beginning, endless, hard, extremely subtle unique, enormous, the first, creator of the three worlds, the only one adorable by the gods; he is the lustre known as Acyuta, should alwyas remain before my eyes and provide light in my heart".

Thus thinking, Janardana — the Brahmana, feeling himself to be successful, driving the excellent horse, reached the city of Dvaraka.

Here ends chapter — 114, of Bhavisya Parva of the Harivarhsa Parana - a supplement of the epic of the Mahabharata relating to the anxiety of Janardana to meet Shri Krishna. (Vrs. 1-42, P.T. = 14,272)'
