Kiling of Hamsa and Shri Krishna

Vaishampayana said — О excellent king, observing the terrific weapon, Hamsa, the ruler, became motionless with fright.

Jumping from his chariot he rushed towards the river Yamuna, at a place, where Shri Krishna had subjugated Kalinaga — serpent in earlier times.

The lake was extremely terrific there and was as deep as the patala. Its expansion was also as much. It appeared black like the collyrium.

Hamsa in panic jumped into the lake. Thundering sound was produced with the fall of Hamsa in the lake water, as if the sound was produced with the fall of mountains in water, with the streching of vajra by Indra.

Then the JagidKvara Krishna also jumped from his chariot into the lake, astonishing the entire world.

At that point of time Kesava kicked Hamsa with both his feet. Some people believe that Hamsa died with the kicks of Shri Krishna, while others hold the opinion that he was stuck down (in the swamp), where he was eaten up by the serpents. No one could see him returning from there, this has also been heard about him.

Thereafter, Shri Krishna returned to his chariot as before. О king, your grand father — Yudhisthira, had performed the Rajasuya yajha after the killing of Hamsa. Had Hamsa been alive, then who would have bowed his head at him.

О lord, Harhsa after receiving the boon from Mahadeva, had become well versed in the use of all the weapons. In a moment, the news was spread in the entire world, that Shri Krishna, the killer of the enemy, had killed Hamsa". On hearing the news, the Gandharvas, started rejoicing and singing throught out the day and night.

The lord of the entire world lord Krishna the form of powerful Visnu, killed Hamsa in the horrible lake of Yamuna. Thus his glory was sung everywhere.

Chapter -129

Suicide of Dimbhaka

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, listening about the death of this terrific and valorous brother, Hamsa in the battle ground, stopped fighting with Balabhadra, went to the Bank of Yamuna. Balabhadra also followed him with great speed.

О king, the place were Hamsa had jumped in the lake of Yamuna, Dimbaka also jumped at the same place. He churned the entire of the Yamuna (lake). Dimbhaka was filled in anger, in the entire water of the Yamuna. He would suddenly dip deep into the water and then come back to the surface. Thus dipping into the water again and again, he could not find his so strong a brother.

Then the powerful Dimbhaka came out of the water and finding Shri Krishna standing there, he said to him.

О son of the cowherd, where is Hamsa"? At this Shri Krishna replied, "O degraded king, why donot you ask Yamuna about it".

When the glorious Vasudeva, so spoke, with delight, thus Dimbhaka who was devoted to his brother listening to his words, again, entered the water of Yamuna and searched for his brother variously. Then getting confused, when he could not find him, he started lamenting.

He said, 'O Rajendra, where have you gone, leaving Dimbhaka? О brother, where have you gone, leaving me here"?

О Janamejaya — the excellent king, thus lamenting, Dimbhaka, who was devoted to his brother, thought of ending his life in the huge lake of Yamuna.

Suddenly he plunged into the water, then he raised himself after a dip, and having resolved to die, lamented again and again, Dimbhaka, who himself indulged in several misadventures, he plucked his tongue from the root, holding it in both the hands and met with his end in the water itself. О king, the evil end of Dimbhaka, was bound to lead him to the hell.

Thus after killing of the valorous Hamsa and Dimbhaka the lotus eyed Shri Krishna, surprising all the bhiitas, returned from that place.

О king, the glorious and lovable, besides the delighted Vasudeva, together with Balabhadra, resting for a while over the mountain Govardhana, stayed at the place which had been enjoyed by him earlier.
