Efforts of Kamsa for the destruction of the preganancy of Devaki

Vaishampayana spoke: О Janamejaya, Kamsa having been filled with anger, commanded his ministers and the close associates, “all of you should get ready to tear out the womb of Devaki.”

Starting from the first pregnancy, all the seven pregnancies should be turned out. When there is a doubt, the misfortune should be uprooted from the base by itself.

Under the strict surveillance, the secret guards, should roam about freely in her lodge at will. But on her becoming pregnent, a strict control should be exercised on her.

The ladies in the harem should calculate right from Devaki’s becoming in period. When the pregnancy develops and reaches the advanced stage, then their further performance should be understood by themselves.

The servents, who are devoted to me, remaining alert during day and night, should guard Vasudeva in the harem. All the ladies as well as the eunuches should keep a strict vigil on him, without disclosing the reason for the same.

The method that can be adopted by the humans, should be adopted by them, but the strong people like me, also fear at the destiny, in a way, which you listen from me.

Even the destiny is brought under control with the proper use of the mantras, proper administering of the medicines and by adopting other favourable means.

Vaishampayana spoke — О king, in this way Kamsa engaged himself in the task of destroying of the pregnancy of Devaki. Listening to the entire talk of Narada, which (internally) frightened Kamsa. Therefore he consulted his ministers for adopting safely measures for himself.

All the efforts of Kamsa aimed at disturbing the world as a whole, learning about which, in his invisible form, lord Visnu thought to himself.

“Kamsa of the Bhoja dynasty, shall destroy the seven conceptions of Devaki. During the eighth conception, I should appear in my-true form.”

Thus thinking, the mind of the lord was suddenly attracted towards Patdla, where lived the Danavas known as Sadagarbhas.

Their bodies had enormous strength. They were illustrious like the gods who consumed nectar. They displayed the prowess like gods in the battle field and were all the sons of the demon Kalanemi.

In earlier times, those Daityas leaving their grand-father Hiranyakasipu, had started adoring Brahma the grand sire of the world.

Carrying the burden of the matted locks of hair over their heads, they engaged themselves into tapas. Then Brahma, getting pleased with the tapas of the Daityas, desired to grant them the boon.

Brahma said: O great warriors who look like the lions in the race of Danavas, I am extremely pleased with your tapas, I shall grant you all your desires.

The desire of all the Daityas was the same and they said to Brahma, “O lord, In case you are pleased with us, then give us the excellent boon.

O lord, we should be invincible from the gods besides the huge Ndgas, we should receive welfare from the great Rishis and the ascetics performing severe tapas. (They should not be able to pronounce any curse on us).

O lord, in case you are going to grant us the boon, then make us invincible from the Yaksas, Gandharvas, Siddhas, Caranas, besides the humans.

Then Brahma, feeling immensely delighted at heart said to them”. All your desires would be fulfilled.”

Thus granting boon the Daityas known as Sadagarbhas, Brahma, left for his abode. On the other hand Hiranyakasipu getting enraged said to them.

“You have discarding me, received a boon from Brahma. Therefore you no more love me. Now you have become my enemies. Therefore I at once disown you.

The father who gave you the name of Sadagarbha and had brought you up, he entering into the womb would kill you all.

All the six demons should appear from the womb of Devaki. Then Kariisa, who is the form of your father Kalanemi, will kill all the six of you, when you are born out of the womb of Devaki.”

Vaishampayana said: “O king, recollecting them, Lord Visnu went to Patala, where the asuras named Sadagarbha lived beneath the water in garbhagrha.

He found that the Daitya Sadagarbha, overpowered by the sleep was sleeping in his garbhagrha.

Then lord Visnu, entered his body in the form of a dream and extracting the jivas, handed them over to the goddess of sleep.

Thereafter, lord Visnu — the extremely truthful one, said to the goddess of sleep, “O goddess of sleep, at my inspiration, you carrying these jivas, go to the abode of Devaki. All the six of them are the Danavas known as Sadagarbha. You keep on planting them in the womb of Devaki, one after the other.

When these jivas are killed after their birth, by Kamsa and when the efforts of Kamsa become inductions and Devaki’s efforts are successful, then I shall shower a special favour on you. О goddess, at that point of time, your influence on earth, would resemble with that of mine, as a result of which, you would be adored in the world like me.

The Seventh pregnancy of Devaki, would be my pleasent arhsa and because of his taking birth earlier than me, he would be known as my elder brother on developing of the pregnancy for seven months, then extracting that pregnancy in the seventh month, you tranplant it in the womb of Rohini.

With the extracting of the pregnancy the valorous one shall be known on earth as Samkarsana. He will have moon like complexion and will be my elder brother.

At that point of time, the people would say that the seventh pregnancy of Devaki, had been aborted, because of the horror of Kaihsa. On my reaching the womb of Devaki as her eight child, then Kamsa would try to kill me.

O goddess, let you meet with welfare. Presently, Yasoda is the loving wife of Nandagopa, she is the mistress of Gokula.

You take birth from the womb of Yasoda, as her ninth child on the ninth day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada.

At the dead of night in the Abhijita- Muhiirata, I shall born of the womb of Devaki.

Both of us brother and sister, during the eight month of pregnancy, shall be born on earth. Thereafter, because of the future destruction of Kariisa, both of us would be interchanged with each other.

О goddess, while, I shall reach the mother Yasoda, and you will take refuge with Devaki. The interchange of both of us shall be unknown to Kamsa.

Thereafter, Kamsa, holding you by your feet would strike you over a stone slab, but you shipping out of his hands, would achieve an eternal place in the sky.

The complexion of your body would resemble with that of mine, but your face would resemble that of Samkarsana your elder brother. In the sky you would have four long arms like me.

In your four hands you would hold a spear, (or trident), sword with a grip of gold, a vase with honey, and a spotless lotus, looking graceful at the same time.

You would be clad in blue silken garments, besides a sheet of silken Pitambara, A white garland of beads would adorn your breast, issuing the moon like rays.

Your ears would be adorned with the divine ear rings. You would look graceful with your face resembling the lustre of moon.

Your head would be adorned with an astonishing crown and your hair do would be well arranged. Your arms resembling the snakes, shall appear graceful in all the ten directions.

You would be looking fine with flag of peacock’s wings, beside your arms shall be adorned with armlets resembling the peacock feathers.

You would beg the terrible bhutaganas and under my command, you taking a vow of remaining unmarried always, would proceed to the heaven.

Then Indra — having a thousand eyes, together with other gods, at my command would perform your abhiseka appropriately.

Then Indra would accept you as his sister quite gracefully. Because of your relation with Kusikagotra you will be known as Kausikl.

Then Indra — the god of gods, would provide you an abode in the Vindhya mountains. Thereafter, you would grace thousands of places because of your auspiciousness.

О graceful one, you changing your form at will and bestowing the boons, will roam about in the tree worlds, and who so ever would beg any boon from you, his wish would be granted.

Then keeping me in your heart, you would destroy the two Danavas named Sumbha and Nisambha with their followers.

You would prefer the offering with honey without meat or flesh and the people would regularly visit you on pilgrimage. They would adore you on the ninth day of the moon after adoring the animals and you would accept such offerings in pleasure.

The people who are well aware of my glory, when adore you, for them the getting of sons or the fortunes would not be out of reach.

When a person is cought up in an inaccessible place, or is about to drown in the vast ocean, or is imprisoned by the thieves or the robbers, for them you would be of great support at the time of misery.

О auspicious one, the people who with utmost devotion would worship you with the stotras, for them neither would I be invisible, nor would they be invisible for me.
