Arrival of Aditi, Kasyapa and gods in Brahmaloka





Janamejaya said — О sage, О best of be Brahmanas, having been defeated by the Daityas, what did the gods do? Then how could they achieve the kingdom of heaven?

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, Devaraja Indra, accompanied with all the gods, on hearing the divine voice from the sky, proceed towards the abode of Aditi in the east.

Reaching the place of Aditi, Indra then repeated the words of the divine voice of the sky as had been heard by him.

Aditi said — О son with a thousand eyes О Satakratu, in case the things are like that, what you have spoken to me and in case all of gods, the Marudganas, are unable to defeat Bali — the son of Virocana in the battle ground and in case the asura can be killed at the hands of the intoxicated lord and not from anyone else, then you should go and consult your father Kasyapa, as to what should be done for the defeat of Bali the son of Diti?"

Thereafter all the gods together with Aditi, went to the sage Kasyapa, their father, where they had an audience with the sage Kasyapa.

Kasyapa is the eternal god and the divine preceptor. Because of his taking bath thrice a day, his body remained wet. He is illustrious like the sun. He is of white complexion and he shines like the fire.

He had discarded holding the danda. He is always engaged in the performing of tapas. He wears the skin of a deer as his upper garment. His body is covered with the bark garments and the deer skin. He always remains resplendent with the Brahmatya.

He always remains resplendent like the rise of fire with the pouring of ghee in the fire with the reciting of the mantras. He is always busy in the studies and is peaceful. He appears like the personfied fire god.

He is the foremost of the orators on Brahman, besides being the father of the gods and asuras. He is quite influential. Like the burning sun, his lustre always remains shining. The son of Marlci — known as Kasyapa, was spotted by the gods.

Brahma — the excellent creator of the living beings is also known as Prajapati. His own personality is displayed in Kasyapa and as such he is also known as the third Prajapati.

All the excellent and valorous gods, with Aditi, offered their salutation to Kasyapa with folded hands then spoke to him in the same way as the mind born sons of Brahma, address him.

They narrated to him the fact revealed in the akasavani that the king Bali — the best of Danavas, was invincible from the gods.

On hearing the words of his sons, Kasyapa then thought of going to Brahmaloka.

Kasyapa said — О sinless gods, we shall now proceed to Brahmaloka, where the sound of the reciting of the Vedic hymns echoes in the sky. The words which you have spoken to me should be repeated before Brahma.

Vaishampayana said — О Janamejaya, then all the gods accompanied with Aditi, with Kasyapa, besides the gods and the Devarsis, proceeded towards the Brahmaloka.

All the gods could move at will, using the pleasent planes and reached Brahmaloka in a couple of ghadis.

In order to have an audience with Brahma, the treasure of tapas reached his assembly.

The hissing sound of the black bees could be heard, in which the sound of their union was also mixed. The assembly bestowed welfare to all, besides being the destroyer of the enemies. Oberseving it all of them felt delighted.

The learned people, well versed in the Vedas and the related literature, besides the Brahmanas, who were the foremost of the reciters of the Vedic hymns were mittering the Vedic rcas.

The best of the gods then listened to each one of the vedic rcas being recited there quite carefully.

The people of learning well-versed in performing of the yajnas, the Vedas and other connected literature, those well versed with the systemic recitation by the Maharsis, and their voice was echoed in presence of Brahma.

Those who were well-versed in the eulogies used in the performing of the yajnas, the people who were well aware of the words and their meanings, those well versed in all the Vidyas, those well-versed in the commentaries of the Vedic passages, besides their meanings those who were excellent orators, having impressive voice, sweet tongued, the recitation of the Vedas was being done by such Brahmanas, their sound was echoeing everywhere, as a result of which the assembly looked like the assembly of gods.

Reaching there and listening to the sound, all the gods undoubtly thought their bodies to have been purified.

The gods, then keeping silent, concentrating their minds, devoting their mind towards Brahma, looked at each other surprisingly. Then they making Kasyapa to lead them, mentally offered their salutation to lord Brahma repeatedly.

The recitation of the Vedas being done in deep high, sweet, and delightful tone, was praised for unification with the lord and jiva, besides jiva, Isvara and Prakrti, Sanyogavada, and the people who were well versed in the logic, besides those well versed in Sastras listened to the recitation with gods, interestingly.

The son of Kasyapa again found several of the prominent Brahmana who performed hard tapas and vratas were engaged in the performing of homa.

In that assembly Brahma, grand sire of the three worlds, lived with Devamaya appropriately.

All the Prajapatis adored Brahma there. Daksa, Praceta, (Vanina), Pulaha, Marlci - the excellent Brahmana, Bhrgu, Atri, Vasistha, Gautama, Narada, Manu, Dhyan, Antariksa (space), the wind god, lustre, water, earth, sound, touch, rupa (shape), rasa (nectar), fragrance, Prakrti and its blemishes, several other causes, four Vedas with angas and updngas (or the subsidiary literature), rahasyas (mysteries), padas, karmas, action, kratu, sarhkalpa and Prana, these as well as several other bhavas (feeling) were present there serving Brahma. The feelings like artha, dharma, kama, jealousy, pride etc also lived there always.

Indra, Brhaspati, Samvarta, Mercury, Saturn, Rahu and other planets were all present there.

О Bharata, Marudganas, Visvakarma, constellations, sun, the moon, were also present there adoring Brahma.

О lord of the people, Savitri — Durga, who rescues one of all dangers, the seven svaras (tunes), seven types of speeches, all the Sruties (or Vedic literature), Gathas, Niyamas, Bhasyas and all the Sastras were present there in their personified forms.

О Bharata, lava (a bit), ksanas (moments), muhuratas (one hour and forty eight minutes), day, night, fortnight, months, six seasons, the year, four yugas, the divine month, four types of nights, anitya (perishable), Dhriva (everlasting) the unchanging kala-cakra were all together with other padarthas were present there in their personified forms, in attendance with Brahma.

All the gods who had arrived there as newcomers, entered the divine court of lord Brahma, which granted all the desires. Kasyapa then entered the court of Brahma, with the gods who were his sons.

The court which was filled with lustre, was served by the Brahmanas. In the said court, Brahma was seated over a high lion thrones. He was beyond comprehesion free from worries and was resplendent with Brahml glamour. Finding him there, all the gods, offered their salutation at his feet, placing their heads before him.

With the touch of the feet of Paramesthi Brahma with their heads, all the gods were freed from the sine, they became peaceful and free from blemishes.

Looking at all the gods, who had arrived with Kasyapa, the illustrious lord Brahma spoke to them.
